 | Classic Skiing 40:00 [3]10 km (4:00 / km) | |
| |
| Believed the weather forecasters that the major snow was going to come in at rush hour. I didn't want to get caught in traffic so I went to Hiawatha Golf Course. Kick wax wasn't working (universal klister left from early Feb.) so I double poled two laps. Forty minutes of double poling is plenty. Fun to be out in nice tracks. |
Tuesday Feb 27 |
 | Other (sledding) 20:00 [2] | |
| |
| Counting this since I pulled Jasper up a number of times and ran a few others. After two days of ice fishing, I needed to get moving. Maybe tomorrow a real workout.
Plus, my thoughts on this ski season. I bet you can't wait. |

 | Skate Skiing 1:44:00 [3]26 km (4:00 / km) | |
| |
| At least we got to ski the course. It was actually a lot of fun. Skied really easy, stopped to talk with family who was out on the powerline. I think we could have raced, but the solution was a pretty good one I think. |
Tuesday Feb 20 |
 | Running 38:00 [2]4.5 mi (8:26 / mi) | |
| |
| Franklin/Lake loop. Only goal was to get an easy workout in. probably another short jog tomorrow, then maybe a short ski on Thursday and that will be about it |
Monday Feb 19 |
 | Skate Skiing 1:10:00 [2]18 km (3:53 / km) | |
| |
| Last? meaningful? ski before? Birkie? at Wirth. Park at the chalet and skied both sides of the golf course sections. Nice and easy. The snow was starting to soften up, but I got out early enough to avoid real sloppiness. |
Sunday Feb 18 |
 | Skate Skiing 50:00 [3]15 km (3:20 / km) | |
| |
| Wirth workout one more time. Trails were still in great shape. I am surprised more people don't ski the EB Flower garden and Quaking Bog section. They are a blast. |
Saturday Feb 17 |
 | Classic Skiing (with Chariot) 25:00 [1]2 km (12:30 / km) | |
| |
| Took Rena for her first ski in the Chariot. She liked it. Crying in the van on the way. Crying while we put her in, sleeping 4 minutes later. We parked at Minnehaha Park and skied south toward the dog park. I turned early to go back to the shuttle so Molly, Jasper and Rena could ski point to point. It was much windier than I expected.
I had hoped to get out for about an hour of skiing but things didn't work out. I may still squeeze in a run after bedtime tonight. Too many days without a workout this close to the Birkie. |
Thursday Feb 15 |
 | Note | |
| (rest day) |
| Probably a rest day, unless you count bowling. Then to the volunteer dinner for City of Lakes Loppet at the Summit Brewery. Need I say more? Oh yeah, it's being catered by Divine Swine, excellent BBQ. |

| Heart shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's. What a great marketing idea. It tastes good too. |
Tuesday Feb 13 |
 | Running 10:00 [4]1.3 mi (7:41 / mi) | |
| |
| My class wanted to race me to Newell Park and back. 3 were ahead by 1 block, 1 by two blocks and none by 3 blocks. Apparently working out and not smoking allow you to run farther than smoking and not working out. We bet 100 push ups, but when we got back, no one remembered the bet. |

| C • young punks!.... 3 |
 | Skate Skiing 55:00 [3]17 km (3:14 / km) | |
| |
| How many times has it happened? I start out feeling kind of tired, and can't get warm. I begin to think about cutting the ski short because "I should listen to my body." Then just as I am about to head back to the car everything changes. I had a great ski at Wirth. The trails were freshly groomed, I was able to get an edge and I actually felt like I was skiing well by the end.
It is such a cool place to ski. Hills, some technical turns, and all right next to city traffic. |
Monday Feb 12 |
 | Note | |
| weight:175lbs (rest day) |
| Probably a rest day. Wouldn't mind a short run later, but may not get to it. |
Sunday Feb 11 |

| North End Classic |
 | Skate Skiing 1:13:00 [3]21 km (3:29 / km) | |
| |
| Decided to head south from OO to check out more of the trail. As usual the north side was in much better shape. there is full coverage, but leaves were showing in places and the south facing hills will be in real danger with any warmer temps. The snow was faster today, and it was the first time in what seemed like forever that I have skied without a bunch of layers. |

| Pre-Birkie |
 | Skate Skiing 2:36:00 [3]37 km (4:13 / km) | |
| |
| A great ski on the Birkie trail. Headed north from OO, and it was cold. Took a chance and used my good skis. No problem. the trail was in great shape, and there was even a classic track most places. Skied to the powerlines and back. With about 5 k left I started to get tired and cold, but luckily came across another skier. We talked the whole way back and the distance flew by. Then home to a sauna. Lights out before 8:30. |
Friday Feb 9 |
 | Running (commute) 23:49 [2]4.5 km (5:18 / km) | |
| |
| Ran to work so that Molly can pick me up on the way out of town. Heading to Hayward, but I am not planning on racing. I decided to try and get one long ski in this weekend instead. |
Thursday Feb 8 |
 | Skate Skiing 41:00 [4]11 km (3:44 / km) | |
| |
| Got caught in traffic on the way to Wirth so I didn't have as much time as I expected. Skied harder than I have in quite a while. It was fun. The conditions are still very good, and the snow was faster. |
Wednesday Feb 7 |
 | Running 38:29 [2]4.5 mi (8:33 / mi) | |
| |
| Happy that I got out for this one instead of staying on the couch. Went out after I put Jasper to bed. 0 degrees and about -20 windchill. Some of it was a bit of a struggle, but after I turned for home I was having fun, and didn't realize I had made it all the way home until I kind of just showed up at my gate. |
Tuesday Feb 6 |
 | Skate Skiing 1:00:00 [3]16 km (3:45 / km) | |
| |
| Skied from Wirth Beach. The trails were excellent. The little bit of powder over the base made for great skiing. Skied the Flower Gaardens and two loops at the Quaking Bog. Distance is estimate. |
Monday Feb 5 |
 | Note | |
| (rest day) |
| Could have gone for a run, but my eyes were bugging me a bit from Sunday. Iddidn't feel like going back out, and I don't belong to a gym, so no workout. |
Sunday Feb 4 |

| City of Lakes Loppet |
 | Skate Skiing (City of Lakes Loppet) 1:48:00 [3]28 km (3:51 / km) | |
| |
| Very cold and windy. Got to the start 3 minutes before we took off. My goal was to ski very easy and do no damage to lungs or skin. Mission accomplished. I could probably call this a 2 intensity had it not been for the hills. I've skied harder this season for sure. I thought the course was excellent. Only 1 icy section. It is one of those days it is good to be done. I was happy that I stuck with my plan, but as I look at the results it is tough to see people I usually beat ahead of me. Not the year for PR's. |

| Outside setting up for the Minne-Loppet. Kind of chilly. Most of the kids were dressed appropriately, some not so much. Jasper skied and had a great time. Ver happy with his effort and his medal. |
Thursday Feb 1 |
 | Note | |
| (rest day) |
| Went out with Jasper to help shovel the City of Lakes Course. It is looking much improved from the work and the little bit of snow. Had a great time shoveling and JJ and I got to drive the snowmobile. A first for both of us. |
