Monday Apr 30

Note
Ugh.
Trying to squeeze too many things into the same time period caught up with me this weekend. Not a single loggable activity over the past 4 days. I would have to look a ways back in my log (with the exception of immediately after Rena was born) to see that.
Road Biking (tandem) 1:50:00 [2]25.0 mi (4:23 / mi)
Snuck away for a tandem ride with Molly in the middle of the day. First time on a tandem. It's a little weird. Great day and we avoided the rain mostly. Went out the greenway past 100, turned around and then down by Lake Calhoun and back towards home on the parkway.
C • Have fun at Team Trials 2

Wednesday Apr 25

Road Biking (commute) 1:00:00 [3]14.0 mi (4:17 / mi)
Had a work meeting in downtown, then rode back to school aand home.

Tuesday Apr 24

Running 46:03 [4]7.0 mi (6:34 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2110
Ford/Lake loop. I thought I would get out and just get an easy run in. Then when I got to the St. Paul side somebody tried to pass me. I decided to try not to let that happen. Ultimately the teenager who was doing intervals or something passed me then stopped. I decided to keep running hard. I had a pretty good run. Headwind on the way back. My legs felt pretty good all the way.

Monday Apr 23

Note
(rest day)
Rode down to the boathouse with Jasper to reapair the Mac 8. Went for a short run in the woods. Jasper either picked up a wwood tick there or at the Sand Dunes meet. Molly yanked it out of his ear today.

Okay. So I could be completely negative on this one or look for the positives. I think I will stick with the positives. Navigated fairly well for the first 10 controls. Good route choices (I think) and if I missed it was only by one feature or so. 11, 12, 13 (possibly the 3 easiest controls on the course) I BLEW big time. 11; I drifted off the bearing because of vegetation. 12; I didn't stick to my plan and ended up on the wrong trail, 13; I made a mistake I haven't in the last couple of years and ended up circling the marsh at the south end of the long lake near 12 before figuring it out. My time this year was about 40 minutes slower than the similar length course last year.
So positives: Comparing the two I think this course was tougher than last year (fewer collecting and catching features).
I navigated pretty cleanly on the toughest legs, took a couple of routes that I really liked and required me to pay atention through the entire leg.
When I was off I was able to make sense of the terrain fairly quickly.
The big mistakes I made were silly and can be fixed with focus. They involved trails and large features like lakes. It was when I sped up for the last two controls that I screwed up. 15 minutes more of accurate navigation and my time would have been very respectable.
Like I said I am trying to stay positive this morning.
C • dude....you still didnt spend ... 5

Splits
Map;2.27, 3.44, 7.05,1.39, 4.22, 4.30, 11.45, 10.36, 3.09, 8.44, 6.25, 6.50, 20.01, 18.45, 3.11.

Looking at the splits withouth the map. I also made a mistake on 2, but most of that time was spent being certain of where I was to avoid a big mistake. I am okay with that.

Saturday Apr 21

Road Biking 40:00 [1]4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(rest day)
Planned to get a long workout in, but I felt tired and sore. Ended up on two sepaarate bike rides with Jasper. Distance and time may be a little underestimated. Decided to log this because it actually seemed to help break up some of the muscle soreness, and we were moving nearly the entire time.

Friday Apr 20

Road Biking (commute) 50:00 [3]12.0 mi (4:09 / mi)
Rode to work and then took the long waay home. The first of an odd assortment of exercise.
Other (Basketball and Football) 30:00 [2]
Played against students at school picnic. Fun to get some sprinting in. FYI, students hate to be beaten by teachers.
Running 25:00 [2]2.2 mi (11:22 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Spur
I ran with Rena in the Chariot to meet up with Molly and Jasper at the traffic calming event along River Rd. Met up with them and then ran VERY slowly. Jasper was in a gawking mood.

Thursday Apr 19

Note
Bowling. Yeah!
137, 126, 118
Highlight of my bowling career was game 1. 4 strikes in a row to end the game.

Wednesday Apr 18

Hiking 45:00 [1]2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
Volunteered at the MN Valley Nat. Wildlife Refuge. Afterwards I took the students hiking again. Got to see an eagle's nest and an eagle watching over it. Apparantly, the eggs generally hatch in the next week or so.

Tuesday Apr 17

Trail Running 1:05:00 [3]8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)
Ran the trails along the Mississippi and then into Minnehaha Park along the creek. Running a little later than I expected, so I stayed on the upper trail mostly on the way back. Perfect day for a run.

Monday Apr 16

Hiking 30:00 [1]1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
Got finished with a service project early with the students, so I took them hiking along the mississippi.

Sunday Apr 15

Note
MNOC--Lebanon Hills; I will be in Omaha

Saturday Apr 14

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2]*** 6 km (13:20 / km)
spiked:11/12c shoes: Vasque Spur
Hanging controls at Lebanon Hills. Only made 1 slight mistake, but stumbled right onto the control I was looking for anyway. I am sitting in my Omaha hotel room right now. Gotta love wireless

Friday Apr 13

Mtn Biking (commute) 25:00 [2]6.0 mi (4:09 / mi)

Thursday Apr 12

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Didn't want to take a lot of time today. Decided to do a short warm -up and a time trial along W. River Rd on the trails.
Trail Running 14:35 [5]2.2 mi (6:37 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2110
Started at the gate to the road to the boathouse going north. Ran for 7:30 and was just short of coming back up onto the parkway. then turned and ran back. About 25 seconds faster, partially accounted for by having to walk past a guy with two dogs on the way out. Legs felt pretty good. Distance is estmate.

Wednesday Apr 11

Trail Running 42:00 [3]4.5 mi (9:20 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Spur
Franklin/Lake loop on the trails. Running in the snow was kind of fun. Time may be off a little. I stopped by the boathouse to talk to the novice coach.

Tuesday Apr 10

Note
Planned to workout, but came home and watched Jeopardy instead. Convinced myself that my body was telling me to take a day off--probably not the case, but that is better than complaining about the weather more.
I almost logged 12 minutes of jogging chasing Jasper on his scooter, but figured the log police would come out.

Sunday Apr 8

Mtn Biking (pavement) 1:00:00 [4]25 km (2:24 / km)
Went back to an old Left at Albuquerque workout based on the encouragement of my lovely wife. I had no idea what I wanted to do for a workout, so not only did she suggest the workout, but she also made me guess at a time, so that made me go faster. Excellent.
Rode south to the entrance of Fort Snelling, back to Pike Island, ran Pike Island and then biked home.
C • Team Trials 2
Trail Running 27:00 [4]4.0 mi (6:45 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Spur
Around Pike Island. Ran fairly hard. Not sure it is exactly 4 miles, but it should be pretty close. What a fun day.

Friday Apr 6

Running 54:30 [3]7.0 mi (7:46 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2110
Ford/Lake loop. Windy and cold. Parents are in town the next couple of days, probably not much to log.

Wednesday Apr 4

Note
(rest day)
No time or energy to train after a VERY hectic day.

Tuesday Apr 3

Orienteering (course setting) 1:50:00 [2]*** 8 km (13:45 / km)
spiked:15/16c shoes: Vasque Spur
checking controls at Lebanon Hills. Made one mistake when I followed a wrong trail. Caught it quickly and corrected. Spooked 1 owl. I'm kind of tired of being cold and wet every time I orienteer.
C • wet and cold ? 5

Monday Apr 2

Mtn Biking (pavement) 1:03:00 [3]26 km (2:25 / km)
Didn't have a lot of time and wanted to do something other than run. Did an out and back to Fort Snelling State Park along the River Rd. An added surprise I ran in to my friend Dog on the way back. Had to work a little harder on the way home to make it make in the time allotted.

Sunday Apr 1

Note
(rest day)
Spent time working around the house and had a nice, long nap. Didn't really feel like heading out in the rain again anyway. Jasper and I watched The Incredibles and spent the rest of the day being super heroes. What fun.
