| Mtn Biking 1:17:00 [1]17.6 km (4:22 / km) | ||
| Two separate trips of similar intensity. The coolest thing is that Jasper rode the entire way on his own bike. First was a trip to the Farmer's Market at Hiawatha and Lake. Next was a trip to the Mid-Town Global Market for the Global Bike Fest. It was Rena's first ride in the bike carrier and she did pretty well. Got a little feisty by the end--Rena, that is. | ||
Friday Jun 29 | ||
| Trail Running 1:31:00 [2]10.0 mi (9:05 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Great run at Hyland, starting at Richardson Nature Center. Went towards the ski area, climbed the ski jump heill, then followed the trail along the top of the ski area. I basically did one long loop of all the ski trails and ended back at the nature center.
I saw a deer and an osprey was perched on top of the nesting box by the nature center.
| Mtn Biking 1:00:00 [1]17 km (3:32 / km) | ||
| Met Molly halfway home from work and rode with her to get coffee. Then Jasper got home and wanted to go for a ride. Went on the Greenway across Hiawatha, then back to River Rd and past Minnehaha Academy. Very good ride, finished off with Chipotle. | ||
Thursday Jun 28 | ||
| Mtn Biking 1:20:00 [2]10.0 mi (7:59 / mi) | ||
| Fun morning ride at Lebanon Hills with LAA teammate. | ||
| Note | ||
| I just added the Roagine to the AP events. Make sure you mark that you are going. | ||
Wednesday Jun 27 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| Hanging out at home with Rena. Got a lot of little things done around the house. | ||
Tuesday Jun 26 | ||
| Mtn Biking 1:30:00 [3]32 km (2:49 / km) | ||
| Decided to do long ride today even though we plan to go to TNT. Rode with Molly to work, then through downtown to the Kennilwirth trail. Out to Wirth to the mountain biking trail for a couple laps, then back home along the Greenway. Inconsistent effort on the way out because of traffic lights and not being sure where I was going. On teh way back I was pedaling pretty well. Distance is a bit of an estimate. My computer battery went while I was at Wirth. | ||
| Mtn Biking 50:00 [3]12.3 km (4:04 / km) | ||
| Two loops of the longer section and one of the shorter at Wirth. Distance is a bit of an estimate. Anybody have exact length on the loops? Fun to be out when responsible people are at work or in air conditioning or both. | ||

| Fun TNT set by Stephen R around his neighborhood and Minnehaha Creek. Could not sind number 2 on the way out and left it for the return. As I was heading for it, Mike C was trying to sneak into the control without me seeing him. Luckily, I saw him duck into the creek because I had overrun the control again.
It ended with a foot race with Mike. Luckily I did not get caught by traffic or he would have beaten me. Very fun TNT. 3 nights, 3 different types of navigation. Excellent.
Monday Jun 25 | ||
| Running 42:41 [2]4.5 mi (9:29 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Franklin/Lake loop before work. My legs are very sore from Saturday. Maybe that is what not doing any intensity work and then racing causes. Felt a lot like work today. Glad to get it in before it gets too hot. | ||
| Road Biking 30:00 [2]7.0 mi (4:17 / mi) | ||
| Commute with short detour. Trying not to sweat. | ||
Sunday Jun 24 | ||
| Paddling 20:00 [1]0.5 mi (39:59 / mi) | ||
| Had to make use of the borrowed boat one more time before we took it back. Jasper and I went out on Nokomis while Molly and her mom were walking. Took or fishing poles along too. Very fun. | ||
| Running 12:00 [2]1.0 mi (11:59 / mi) | ||
| I'm logging this because it was an attempt at a longer run that was cut short by an unhappy rider in the Chariot. Rena wanted no part of the run to Minnehaha Park for ice cream with Molly and Jasper. Still not sure if I'm more bummed about missing the workout or the ice cream. Ice cream, definitely. | ||
Saturday Jun 23 | ||
| Note | ||
| Tri-Loppet with Molly | ||
| Paddling race 52:00 [3]8 km (6:30 / km) | ||
| First leg of the Tri-loppet with Molly as taskmaster. Had solid effort. Paddle near Stephen and Kari a good chunk of this leg. Molly steered an excellent course. | ||
| Trail Running race 24:16 [4]5 km (4:51 / km) vdot: 39.7 | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Passed a number of people in the TA, due to our strategery, and had a really good run. Maybe I could have pushed it a little more, but I was always a little afraid that the course would include a couple of the big hills that it could have gone up. Passed by only one person and passed quite a few people. | ||
| Mtn Biking race 28:38 [4]10 km (2:52 / km) | ||
| Very happy with my bike leg. A very fun course. I wasn't passed by anybody on the bike, and I caught the guy who passed me on the run and passed him just before the finish. | ||
| Mtn Biking 20:00 [2]5 km (4:00 / km) | ||
| Rode our bikes back to the car instead of waiting for the shuttle. Very nice ride. It was like back when we were dating and didn't have kids to rush home to. | ||
Wednesday Jun 20 | ||
| Road Biking (commute) 40:00 [2]9.0 mi (4:27 / mi) | ||
| Orienteering 38:00 [3]*** 4 km (9:30 / km) | ||

| Permanent O course with students. 45 minute score-o. Black flies were as thick as the vegetation. | ||
| C • permacourse has flies? 3 | ||
| Note | ||
| Very excited about the recent confirmation of my ROGAINE partner. He/she has international experience and more than his/her fair share of experience dealing with challenging teammates. This person has been on teams with some douzies. I should be easy to get along with by comparison.
This secret will be guarded as closely as the AR location.
| C • oh yeah!.................. 15 | ||
| Orienteering 25:00 [3]5.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Went for a ride on the tagalong with Jasper before dinner. Did a loop around the boulder near Minnehaha Academy South Campus. | ||
Tuesday Jun 19 | ||

| Orienteering (Map Hike) 55:00 [1]2 km (27:30 / km) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Did not really want to overexert today in the heat. I went and checked out the area around the baseball fields at Battle Creek that have given me problems in the past.
Highlight of the day was nearly being attacked by a turkey. I was fully engrossed in the map. It must have been sleeping. I was within about 2 feet of it and it jumped up and came at me. I survived the encounter. I did also see a deer and a very small fawn as well.

| I feel a little better today, but I am going to take at least one more day off. Hopefully tomorrow. | ||
Friday Jun 15 | ||
| Mtn Biking (road) 30:00 [1]4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||

| slept:4.0 (rest day) | ||
| Got up way too early to catch a flight in Philadelphia at 6:30 to make it back to work today. My guess is I won't feel like a workout. And YES I also have the eye infection that MAJ wrote about in her log. | ||
Tuesday Jun 12 | ||

| Setting for program at Skytop Lodge in PA. Used an aerial photo and an enhanced trail map. Then I cut the photo into small pieces. Groups had to put the picture together then go pick up items to be used in another activity at the control locations. It went really well. Both portions of the activity took almost the exact time I had planned for. Not always the case with group events.
Sad reality: I was in the Pocono Mountains for less than 24 hours and never got a chance to check out any trails.
| C • Questions: Why are you out of... 5 | ||
Sunday Jun 10 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| Didn't really want to take a rest day, but the schedule didn't allow any time for a workout. I did learn how to start a fire with flint and steel though. Pretty cool. | ||
Saturday Jun 9 | ||
| Trail Running long 2:28:00 [2]15.0 mi (9:52 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Wanted to do a long run today. Then the schedule started closing in. Had decided to go short, then Molly gave me the kick I needed. I decided to go south into Fort Snelling, around Pike Island and back. Took mostly trails on the way there, mostly the bike path on the way back. Felt pretty good the whole way.
Tried an ice bath for the first time. I am hooked. I will see how it did for the muscles, but my knees feel great. Distance is estimate based on time.
| C • Oh my. 5 | ||
Friday Jun 8 | ||
| Running 30:00 [3]4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| I had a meeting at 3:30 right by Como. I had planned to bring one of the old sprint maps and do one of the courses. Forgot the map. I almost bagged it and headed home, but I decided to get out and run. I'm glad I did. I ran in a new area, and I checked out some locations for possible sprint controls.
Headed home to hang out, eat, and get ready for Prom. Yeah that's right. I had the opportunity to chaperone Prom. Good dessert, and no conflicts. Call it a success.
Thursday Jun 7 | ||
| Road Biking 3:00 [5]0.2 mi (14:59 / mi) | ||
| 7:56-7:59 and it's MN. | ||
Wednesday Jun 6 | ||
| Trail Running 43:56 [3]4.5 mi (9:45 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Franklin/lake loop by way of trails. I ran one section i usually don't run, because it requires walking a big chunk, but i wanted to stay off the road. | ||
Tuesday Jun 5 | ||
| Hiking 1:00:00 [1]2.0 mi (29:59 / mi) | ||
| Putting out fliers in the neighborhood for a community meeting about Lake St. construction. Plenty of steps leading up to people's houses. | ||
Monday Jun 4 | ||
| Road Biking (commute) 25:00 [2]6.0 mi (4:09 / mi) | ||
| Running 40:00 [4]4.5 mi (8:52 / mi) | ||

| Jasper decided we needed to go out with me jogging and Rena in the Chariot and him on his bike. Just a few weeks ago, I said how the pace was a little slow while running with him. Now I can't keep up. If it hadn't been for a nice woman on a bike who told him he needed to stop and wait for me, we might be somewhere out near Hopkins about now.
Not a fully consistent effort, as we stopped at roads and a few different places to look around and talk, but a really fun workout. Rena slept the whole way which meant she wasn't that interested in bed when we got home. Sorry about that Molly.

| MNOC--Lake Elmo; Members Only | ||
| Orienteering race 41:59 [4]*** 5.5 km (7:38 / km) | ||
| spiked:17/18c shoes: Vasque Spur | ||
| Very fun score-o at Elmo. Checked out the course, made my strategy decision and started running. Just happened to be heading in the exact same direction as Graham, Owen, and Pete. They all were headed to 16. I skipped that and went to 10. Wasn't quite into the map yet and made my only mistake of the day. Just a little time. I ran with Pete and Owen for a while, then just Pete. Then he chose to go for 7 and I skipped that and headed for 8. I finished with 16 and was looking for one more control, but didn't have enough time to get to 25, which I thought was the closest. Afterwards I realized I could have easily picked up 23 at 2 different times and missed it altogether. Would have put me in a tie with Pte and Graham and time would have decided it.
Order: 10,2,3,4,9,11,12,18,17,6,15,14,24,22,8,21,1,16 Oh well. This was tremendously more positive than last year's score-o. Distance is based on a very quick measurement of my route.

| Out Of Gas. Didn't think I was going to get this in. I was supposed to take Jasper swimming, but then it started thundering, so I squezzed it in. Very tired, and I think it was control 6 I started drifting to the hill control from the long sprint. Didn't make it all the way there before realizing the mistake, so probably only a few seconds, but it easily could have been a mispunch. | ||
| C • nearly distracted you for the last control! 4 | ||

| Sent my leadership students out for a team challenge. I got into it more than they did. Still, sort of fun trying to stay focused on a street map when looking for students. Had to stop a few times to encourage them. | ||
