Note
Wow. This has been the first time since I started keeping a log that I have disappeared (other than vacations). No training to add. Students on break last 2 weeks which usually means more time to workout. Not this time.

Started a house project (remodeling bathroom), got my first cortizone shot for mysterious foot pain, had teeth drilled for a crown and filling and my best sleep during the past week was a 3.5 hour nap in a Fleet Farm parking lot East of Waupaca, driving home from Appleton on Saturday.

Probably have 1 more week of no/little working out (house project and regrouping from rowing season), then I will get back at it. Anybody for a brisk walk?

Hopefully, this doesn't sound too whiny, because that's not the tone I meant.

Saturday Oct 20

Roller Skiing 52:00 [2]10 km (5:12 / km)
to dog park and back.

Sunday Oct 14

Orienteering (control retrieval) 1:00:00 [1]*** 3 km (20:00 / km)
spiked:6/6c
Took Jasper back out to Battle Creek to finish collecting controls from yesterday. Carried him much of the way.

Saturday Oct 13

Note
MNOC--Tamarck Night-O
Mtn Biking 2:00:00 [3]*** 10 km (12:00 / km)
spiked:32/32c
Setting and retrieving controls at Battle Creek. Very fast to do it by mtn bike.
Orienteering race (Night) 49:55 [4]*** 5 km (9:59 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
Clean and fast run minus 2 substantial mistakes. 1 was a 6 min. doozie causedy thinking I was leaving a different control than I actually was, then not readin terrain properly. 2nd was maybe 2 minutes caused by missing a spur and looking around a depression.
Lowlight of the night was running past a group of three people on the trail, all of them moving back and forth in front of me, and one of them sticking his leg out, acting like he was going to trip me. All I said was "That's not funny," as he and his friends were laughing it up.
Lots of wildlife 3 deer, 4 raccoons--one I thought was a skunk--and a ssmall bird that I jumped and chased down the trail.

Red A - Splits

Tuesday Oct 9

Orienteering 50:00 [3]*** 2.5 km (20:00 / km)
spiked:10/12c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
Setting out punches at O event at the Arboretum. Made a couple of silly mistakes, mostly a scale issue.
Orienteering 20:00 [5]*** 2.5 km (8:00 / km)
spiked:12/12c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
Retreiving controls. I realized as the program was getting over that I had to pick the kids up in S. mpls in about an hour and I was in Chaska. More motivation than nearly any competition I've been in in some time.

Monday Oct 8

Note
(rest day)
I am spent. Had difficulty getting enough energy last night to get the kids to bed and then get off the couch to go to bed myself. Muscles aren't as sore as I expected, but there's still time for DOMS. I will enter workout and splits tonight or tomorrow.

Sunday Oct 7

Orienteering race (Minnegoat) 3:18:55 [3]*** 15.3 km (13:00 / km) +550m 11:01 / km
26c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
This one hurt. Hot and humid. Ran nearly the entire thing with Ian. More details later. Very happy with result, but not so much with my fitness.

Saturday Oct 6

Note
MNOC--Fall O-Weekend at Telemark
Orienteering race 1:18:39 [4]*** 6.48 km (12:08 / km) +120m 11:07 / km
14c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
Red Course at Telemark. No major mistakes. Have to look at map for more details. Very happy with run, even though it was a little on the slow side. Trying to be conservative to avoid mistakes and save legs for rest of the weekend.
Orienteering race (Night) 59:32 [4]*** 4.1 km (14:31 / km)
15c shoes: Vasque Blur 2
Night-O at North end. Very fun course. Again, trying to be conservative. Messed up control 1 and I think brought a number of people along for the ride. I might have been just behind someone else too. Only a few small mistakes the rest of the way. Very happy with effort. Started to cramp at the end. Not a good sign for the Minnegoat the next day.
Two weeks of no quality training definitely had an impact from here on out.
I may look at my map for more details.

Tuesday Oct 2

Hiking 35:00 [1]*** 3 km (11:40 / km)
spiked:3/3c shoes: Vasque Spur
Fun being out with Jasper after dark at Battle Creek. He got scared and tired pretty quickly. Fun just to walk around and talk. Had a nice conversation with the police while waiting for everyone else.

Monday Oct 1

Mtn Biking (road with trailer) 40:00 [1]5.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
After dinner loop with Jasper on his bike and Rena in the Chariot. It's kind of fun being out after dark with Jasper. He thinks he is staying up really late.
