Thursday Jan 31 | ||
| Note | ||
| I must get a run in tonight. Even if it means after the kids go to bed. I knew I wasn't going to have much time this week, but I can't afford to go five days without working out at this point in the season. Especiaally since I won't get much in this weekend. | ||
| C • Just think of your training... 2 | ||
| Running 27:00 [3]3.7 mi (7:17 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Blur 2 | ||
| Quick run after kids' bedtime and before i was meeting someone to pick up supplies for the Minneloppet. Tried to up intensity a little. At least I made it out. | ||
| C • glad to see you made it out 2 | ||
Wednesday Jan 30 | ||
| Note | ||
| I had hoped to get a run in at least, but ran out of time. I got a haircut between school and parent/teacher conferences at school. I even had a chance to join a friend at the Y, but didn't have the clothes. | ||
Tuesday Jan 29 | ||
| Note | ||
| Didn't really mind not getting a workout in. Crazy cold. Standing at the gas pump was enough. | ||
Monday Jan 28 | ||
| Note | ||
| weight:178lbs (rest day) | ||
| Planned rest day after two hard workouts. | ||
Sunday Jan 27 | ||
| Skate Skiing 2:58:00 [2]52 km (3:25 / km) | ||
| Skied at Battle Creek with Dave. Six laps of the outer trail. Based on time estimates we think the loop is between 8 and 9 k, probably closer to 9. Snow was lightning fast early and we got done before it softened up. The last two laps seemed like work. There are some great long hills that are very comparable to Birkie hills.
Extremely happy with this weekend's work.
| Classic Skiing 1:00:00 [1]4 km (15:00 / km) | ||
| Skied with Jasper's MYSL class at Como. Didn't see Darryn. I had Rena in the backpack, which is surprisingly difficult to ski with. Had to walk down a couple hills because it would be hard to justify to the doctor that my one year old got hurt because I "knew" I could make it down that little hill.
Followed the group on a treasure hunt. Very fun on a very nice day out. By the end I must say that I was ready to be out of ski boots. Had to ski to and from the car at the other end of the golf course because of winter carnival.
Saturday Jan 26 | ||
| Skate Skiing 1:30:00 [3]25 km (3:36 / km) | ||
| Skied at Wirth with Dave P. Conditions were excellent. Started at Wirth beach, skied Butler, Quaking Bog, onto Brownie, the greenway loop and then back to the bog and Butler.
Distance is estimate. | ||
| Skate Skiing 40:00 [1]3 km (13:20 / km) | ||
| Jasper, Molly, Rena and I went to check out the Minneloppet course for next weekend. Very fun to be skiing on groomed snow on Lake of the Isles at sunset. Jasper wanted to keep going, but his energy was ebbing. Molly tricked him a great plot. At some point he isn't going to fall for our trickery anymore. | ||
Wednesday Jan 23 | ||
| Skate Skiing 32:00 [2]8 km (4:00 / km) | ||
| Warm-up and cool down before and after time trial loop at Highland Golf Course. Windy and cold. Snow was very slow. | ||
| Skate Skiing 12:30 [5]4 km (3:08 / km) | ||
| Time trial loop at Highland Golf Course. Snow was very slow and it was windy. Tough effort. Didn't have a lot of time so tried to up the intensity of the workout. | ||
| C • good idea... 1 | ||
Monday Jan 21 | ||
| Skate Skiing 3:00:00 [3]46 km (3:55 / km) | ||
| Elm Creek with Molly. I pulled Rena around the outside loop in the Chariot the first lap, about 53 minutes. After helping Molly get the Chariot and Rena loaded into the van I went out for three more laps. My guess is that it is about 11 k per lap. May be a bit off one way or the other. Finished the time off by grabbing my backpack at the chalet and skiing to the overflow lot. I was too close to 3 hours to quit at the chalet. | ||
Sunday Jan 20 | ||
| Skate Skiing 59:00 [3]16 km (3:41 / km) | ||
| Zipped out to Elm Creek in the afternoon. Temperature was about 0. I overdressed. Conditions were pretty good. Headed home to watch the Packers game that ruined my day. | ||
Saturday Jan 19 | ||
| Running 1:00:00 [2]7.0 mi (8:34 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Blur 2 | ||
| Decided to go for a run and check some clothing choices out for the temps. About 1 below when I left, and the temp seemed to drop as I went. Not bad, but if I had had to stop for any reason I wouldn't have stayed warm for long. | ||
| Strength 10:00 [1] | ||
| 3 X 75 crunches
3 X 50 tricep dips 3 X single leg jumps and dancing on the square carpet to "It's the end of the World as we know it," by REM with Jasper Rena and Molly.
Wednesday Jan 16 | ||
| Running 50:00 [2]10 km (5:00 / km) | ||
| Quick ski at Highland Golf Course in St. Paul on my way home from work. Mostly double poling. Conditions were okay. Track was washed out in a number of areas. Skate lane looked surprisingly good. | ||
Monday Jan 14 | ||
| Running 34:40 [3]4.5 mi (7:41 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Blur 2 | ||
| Franklin/Lake loop before dinner. I gave Molly the option to workout, but she declined for some reason (maybe below zero windchills?). I took off at an easy pace and then decided to pick it up after crossing the Franklin bridge. Coming back across the Lake St. bridge I passed a guy who said, "Nobody ever passes me." That was fun to hear.
Good run and came in the house to sloppy joes for dinner. What could be finer?
Sunday Jan 13 | ||
| Event: MNOC Winter O Nerstrand Big Woods | ||
| Skate Skiing 1:56:00 [2]30 km (3:52 / km) | ||
| Couldn't figure out a way to make it to the O-meet with our schedule for the day so I got a long ski in later in the day at Hyland. Easy effort, talking with my friend the whole time. Highlight of the day was buzzing a couple waalking in the middle of the trail on a fast downhill. | ||
| C • missed a good meet but 2 | ||
Saturday Jan 12 | ||
| Skate Skiing 1:25:00 [3]25 km (3:24 / km) | ||
| Went to Hyland expecting less than ideal conditions. I was pleasantly surprised to find it nearly perfect. Sort of built intensity over the workout. Averaged about a 3. Distance an estimate. Two loops of North, one including the nature center spur, and two hill loops. Had to be back at the chalet for Rena's 1st birthday or I probably would have done more. | ||
| Skate Skiing 30:00 [1]2 km (15:00 / km) | ||
| Skied with Jasper and his friends late in the day at Hyland. Played around on the hill by the Chalet, then skied across the lake and then around the beginner loop. Very fun. | ||
Thursday Jan 10 | ||
| Running 1:00:00 [2]7.0 mi (8:34 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Vasque Blur 2 | ||
| Woke up early and figured I wasn't going back to sleep so I should make the best of it. Went for a run at 5:45 and did the Ford/Lake loop. Much warmer than I expected. I was very slow. Almost 4 minutes slower on the first half than I usually am, and ended up about 6 minutes slower than my usual pace. I'm okay with that. If I hadn't gone then I wouldn't have gotten a workout in at all today. | ||
Wednesday Jan 9 | ||
| Skate Skiing 30:00 [2]6 km (5:00 / km) | ||
| Warmed up for about 10 minutes before doing a couple sprints at the MYSL sprint series at Wirth. Then skied the front 9, skiable, but boring. Went over to the hilly side and skied a bit over there before deciding it was too icy to be any fun. Headed back to the car. Made it home in time to have some ice ceam. | ||
| Skate Skiing 6:00 [5]2 km (3:00 / km) | ||
| 2 X 1 k sprint at Wirth. Should have done more, but the guy I was skiing with only planned on doing a couple and my motivation wasn't high enough to do any by myself on marginal conditions. Boy, that sounds whiny. | ||
Sunday Jan 6 | ||
| Running (with Chariot) 40:00 [3]4.5 mi (8:52 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Icebugs MR3 | ||
| While Molly and Jasper wereat MYSL, I took rena for a run in the Chariot. Just an out and back along River Rd heading south. Slushy conditions. Really warm. I hope others are staying off ski trails to preserve them until we get back to colder temps. My guess is that may not be the case though. | ||
Saturday Jan 5 | ||
| Classic Skiing 2:00:00 [2]20 km (6:00 / km) | ||
| What a fun day. Skied from Wirth to Uptown for Steve's B-Day. Skied with each group that formed for awhile and skied the Butler loop with Brian.
Left the second group trying to bridge the gap to the first on Cedar, but promptly took a wrong turn and added more distance. Finally caught back up to the second group on Lake of the Isles. I am in agreement with Steve that I wish all workouts were this fun. I am also in agreement with Ian on certain issues. Sorry Steve.
Thursday Jan 3 | ||
| Running 38:45 [3]4.5 mi (8:36 / mi) | ||
| shoes: Icebugs MR3 | ||
| First run in awhile. Felt like an effort the entire way. Did an out and back to the bottom of the hill past Franklin. Just happy to make it out. I felt like sliding onto the couch and watching Jeopardy. | ||
Wednesday Jan 2 | ||
| Note | ||
| Below are my 2007 goals with comment. Notice the key word of the year was flexibility. I think that ruled the day. Rena's birth, Jasper's growing desire to be included and coaching twice a day in the fall had major impact on goals. But I had some results that I was very happy with. Highlights maybe tomorrow.
The overarching theme this year is flexibility. I have a number of things I want to accomplish, but they will all be based on not creating a ton of stress for the family. Most volume related goals are scaled back, but I will try to increase quality workouts. Goals: 300 hours of training (actual 239--bummer) 45 times on a map (actual--60) Attend 2 A-meets (went to 1 plus PT, and happy with results at both) Have no local O-meet per k time of 10:30 or higher (have to check, but I think I was close other than night or Minnegoat) Either 50 Mile Superior Trail Run or Twin Cities Marathon (Yeah, right) 1 triathlon off-road hopefully (Nope) Train for ultra ski event--either Canadian Ski Marathon or Arrowhead 135. (Nah...although I have more time on real snow this early in a season in a long time.)
| C • CSM! 2 | ||
| C • I think you missed one. 5 | ||
| Skate Skiing 1:02:00 [3]13 km (4:46 / km) | ||
| Got a ski in at Wirth after helping with the MYSL sprint training. Fell a couple of times before I stopped back at the chalet and retreived my headlamp. Skied the back nine (hilly side) mostly with an extra bit of a loop before heading in. Distance is estimate based on time. Conditions were good but surprisingly hardpacked. Temp wasn't too bad. | ||
| C • got your message last night... 2 | ||
