Note
MNOC--Afton State Park

After seeing how thick Afton was, I can't say I am that excited about fighting through all the buckthorn at Wirth.
Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]*** 6 km (12:30 / km)
spiked:7/8c shoes: Vasque Spur
Started the Red course late after helping with registration. Molly got priority as part of her Mother's Day gift. I knew I probably wouldn't have time to finish a course. I probably should have done brown or green, but I didn't even think of it. At 3:15 I still had 7 controls to go, so I just headed back to the finish. Sprinted the last few yards to make Ian think I beat him.
I had trouble with one control in really thick veg. Not sure that was the problem, but it was there. I went all the way back out to the trail to re-attack which added more thick veg and more time. Looking at this as a training day, not worried about the result at all.

Thursday May 10

Mtn Biking (with tagalong) 20:00 [2]3.0 mi (6:40 / mi)
(rest day)
To Hiawatha Park and back after playing and climbing up and down the "ice auger" (Gotta love MN). We went a different way back and Jasper started crying when we turned the corner and he realized we were home. He definitely wanted to ride more.

Wednesday May 9

Running 40:00 [2]5.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2110
Out and back on West River Rd to bottom of hill by Franklin. Nice running along Winchell trail with the leaves out. It is amazing how much noise from the road they block.
Mtn Biking (with tag along) 20:00 [2]3.0 mi (6:40 / mi)
Picked up Jasper from school.

Tuesday May 8

Mtn Biking (with tag along) 25:00 [1]4.0 mi (6:14 / mi)
Took Jasper on his first longer ride on the tag along. He needed a belt so we rode to Target. Fun. He was super excited, but we were both pretty nervous about traffic. It's one thing to ride in traffic and be responsible for yourself, but another thing entirely to have a 4 year-old along and pedaling.

Monday May 7

Note
weight:177lbs (rest day)
Made the crazy drive all the way from Detroit yesterday after the race. Only possible because Rena and Jasper both slept a good chunk of the afternoon. Still didn't get home until 1:00 and then both of the kids needed some attention to get settled. I think I'll take today off.

Sunday May 6

Orienteering race 2:45:45 [3]**** 12.89 km (12:52 / km) +357m 11:18 / km
25c shoes: Vasque Spur
I am extremely happy with this run. I was slow, and made some mistakes, but not huge mistakes and I was always in contact with the map. I don't have the map or my splits in front of me, so a more detailed look later.
The terrain was very similar to Telemark, so the work setting there last fall definitely helped. After the long i decided not to sell my compass and take up basketmaking.

Day 3: Blue - Splits
