Note
Afton 25k
Trail Running race 2:33:49 [4] 25 km (6:09 / km) +500m 5:36 / km
shoes: Vasque Spur
Afton 25k. What a blast. I had a great 21k race, unfortunately I still had 4k to go. Heat and lack of training finally got to me and I started getting pre-cramp twinges. I had to walk a good chunck of the last 1.5 miles. Finished with cramping calves. Even after re-hydrating after the race I lost 6 pounds. I would highly reccommend this race.

The difference in atmosphere between this trail race and road races was extreme. Everyone seemed really low key, even the men and women who are really fast. Unlike road races where there are people cheering the entire course, there were no spectators until the last few hundred meters. It was so much more about people providing their own motivation than about external motivators. Way cool. Also, there were long sections where I could see other people, but felt like I was out for my own private race in the woods. Excellent.

2:33 is a close estimate. I forgot to stop my watch. Any way I was within the range of where I thought I wiould finish. Had kind of hoped to average 9 min/mile, but saw very quickly that wasn't going to happen.

Mtn Biking (with Jasper) 40:00 [2] 7.7 km (5:12 / km)
In a sign of the times, instead of laying around all day after a race, I had the good fortune of going on a bike ride with Jasper. He was on his own bike. We did the Franklin/Lake loop. It was fun. We stopped a bunch of times for water and to rest. Maybe as much for me as for him.

Friday Jul 6

Running 16:00 [2] 2.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Spur
Just an easy run to loosen legs up before tomorrow's race.

Thursday Jul 5

Mtn Biking (road with Jasper) 25:00 [2] 4.5 mi (5:33 / mi)
Quick trip on the Greenway and back after we got home from Hayward.

Wednesday Jul 4

Paddling 45:00 [2] 3 km (15:00 / km)
Took Jasper out for a paddle on McClean Lake in Hayward. It was very cool. I include about 15 minutes for the portage as well.

Tuesday Jul 3

Trail Running 38:00 [3] 7 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Vasque Spur
Trail run on the Birkie Trail from OO. Went south. It was hot and the black flies were gunning for me. Nice run though.

Monday Jul 2

Mtn Biking (commute) 25:00 [2] 10 km (2:30 / km)
To work and home with Jasper on the Tagalong. Then off to Hayward.

Sunday Jul 1

Mtn Biking 1:20:00 [2] 18 km (4:27 / km)
Family trip to Fort Snelling State Park. Molly had Rena in the Chariot and I had Jasper on the Tagalong. We were a part of a convoy that included 5 adults, 6 kids, 6 bikes two tagalongs and 3 Chariots. Our theme song was "Nerds on Parade." It was a blast.
