Orienteering 1:28:50 [4] *** 9.3 km (9:33 / km) +204m 8:36 / km
spiked:13/15c shoes: Vasque Blur 2

Fun to be on a blue course. A pretty good run with one major route choice error and one miss. (I think. I have to grab the map to be sure.)

I got caught by Ian after my route choice error (3-4). Then I ran with him for about 3 controls, then we took different routes to a couple controls but got there at the same time. Then I made a mistake on a control, but he made a bigger one on the same control. (10 I think). Then I never saw him again. When I got to the finish I had to ask if he had already finished because I had no idea if he was in front of or behind me.

The cool part was the way intensity spiked while we were running together. It increased the speed I was running and that increased the possibility of making mistakes, which I made but was able to recover from. It was great training.

Note

I came to the realization today that once again, I am not going to have the time to properly train for the 50 mile Superior Trail Run. Bummer. This has been something that I have wanted to do since I completed the TC marathon in 05. I really thought this was going to be the year, but new business, two young kids, and hopes of an actual family vacation mean that those long training sessions are just not a reality.

I may still train for the marathon distance at the same race, but not sure of that either.

Road Biking 25:00 [2] 6.0 mi (4:10 / mi)

Mtn Biking (with tagalong and Chariot) 35:00 [3] 6.0 mi (5:50 / mi)

Picked the kids up from school and took the long way home. It's a nice transition from work to home and Rena and Jasper seem to love it.

Insult to Injury:
Not only was I unable to attend the obviously fun OTNT last night, but THEN I received a phone call from an apparently lively establishment to which participants retired. Not only did I receive said phone call, but it was to retrieve a phone number of one participant's WIFE. How many ways would it have been wrong if I had that number when said wife's husband did not know that number?

My medically proven condition--AMS--*Afraid of Missin' Somethin', which had already been engaged because of a new O venue, kicked into higher gear at that point. This unfair treatment of me and said man's wife should be compensated in some way. Justice demands it.

Mtn Biking (w/ tagalong and Chariot) 8:00 [5] 1.5 mi (5:20 / mi)

Full sprint. Running late to get kids from school but had promised to pick them up by bike.

Mtn Biking (with tagalong and Chariot) 35:00 [3] 5.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

Took the kids to Minnehaha to play Then bike ride to Taco Bell for dinner. Don't tell MAJ she's out of town and will never know.
Would have been an easy ride back, but these two yahoos made a big scene of passing me on either side riding in the grass and bunnyhopping imaginary holes. They got a few yards ahead and then moderated their pace.
I caught back up to them but stayed just far enough back that they had to keep riding faster to stay ahead.
Their egos and speed cracked when the yahoo pulling two kids in a big rig system said, "I'll pass you on the left here." Jasper looked back a minute or so later and said, "Dad, those guys who tried to pass us are back there...Way back there."
Yeeha.

Celebrated with Taco Supremes.

Mtn Biking (with tagalong and Chariot) 1:15:00 [2] 10.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Mother's Day Ride to Grand Old Creamery on Cedar Ave. Very fun. Mom got to cruise along unencumbered while I played pack mule. While I will say publicly it was a Mother's Day present, it was more that I didn't want to mess around with changing all the attachments on the bikes.
