| BCOC's - Day 1
...ahhhh Thetis Lake salal. Well could have thrown away the HR monitor in this stuff. Not much more than a walking pace except on trails. My start got a little muddled and threw me a little, but no excuse for my major error on control 4. That 10min error took me out of the running for a medal... oops! I was pleased that i then kept focused and managed to take alot of the splits when comparing with Pi. First time on a map since Barebones (not including UVic campus c-meet a couple of weeks back).

| Beaver Lake 10km Loop
Well I think the writing is on the wall... The first two loops of 10km each were great and then somewhere around ~24 or 25km things started to fall apart. Then at 34km the wheels fell off and ran out of gas. I could go into all sorts of reasons why this was, but the fact remains for me to run a Boston Qualif. time in two weeks, the stars would have to aline. This was simply my second long run since starting training again at the begginning of Sept. Maybe in another month I'll look into another marathon with more long runs under my belt. Yes, there are enough excuses including: I had no water with me and was running on gravel based single track as opposed to pavement, but being honest with myself... I spent last winter training to go tough for <90min, so I think a sub 90min half will be the new goal in two weeks time. Times I recall: 01km - 04:51 (1km in and I was already 21sec down....) 10km - 45:36 (36sec off my desired pace) 20km - 1:31:30 (1:30 off my desired pace) 21km - 1:36:58 (yikes... slowing down) 30km - 2:21:48 (ahh... forget this crap) 34km pulled up with the reality hitting me.
| Note | ||
| Oh yeah... other thing that slowed me down during my third loop: at about 27km I got ploughed into by a twelve year old girl on a bike. She lost control heading straight for me, so natural reaction... try to catch her from hitting the gorund. Managed to save her from hitting the ground, but she was certainly shaken. Cost me ~1.5min. (gotta pile on the excusess here... ;) | ||
