Royal Victoria Marathon, Victoria, BC

Running race 1:30:37 [4] 21.1 km (4:18 / km)

Royal Victoria 1/2 Marathon

Made the wise choice to not kill myself over a 3:15 full today. Regardless, made it a bad day for myself by sleeping in and eating too close to the race. The first 6clicks were very painful gutt-wrenching and I thought I might have to drop from the race; but luckily recovered by 7km and began actually racing. My HR was all over the place and I couldn't seem to focus "...oh look at the pretty bird..." Came up short on my 90min goal having lost it all in the early stages and actually gained ground in the second half to finish 120th. 20 spots out of my 'top 100' secondary goal.

Was a painful afternoon of staying close to a washroom at all times as the "system" was still flushing long after the race.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)

Route
Fearing collapse this weekend if I run the marathon (or more likely the half marathon), I left work ~6 and ventured out for a gentle jog after walking the pooch up Mt. Doug. After missing the turn off for Mt Tolmie, I decided to explore the neighborhood. Crazy maze of streets! Could hold a confusing spring just using a street map! Actually, looking at google.maps after the fact it does not look that complex, but on the ground with no prior knowledge, streets seemed to be running every-which-way.

Felt okay, but much tooooo hot! I over dressed as it had been super cold all day. Somewhere in the time I arrived from walking with Superfly-George and heading out for my run it jumped 8-10 degrees.

Note

Started back into the consulting world today and last week was crazy busy with finalization of my thesis. So training has seemed to have been lacking over the past couple of weeks.
