Road running 58:10 [3] 7.02 mi (8:17 / mi) +25m 8:12 / mi
shoes: Saucony Progrid Wide 2

A sluggish start with a tight stride. After 2.5 miles, the running improved, a light rain started that was quite refreshing, and the remainder was decent.

Family run.

Road running 29:57 [2] 3.36 mi (8:54 / mi) +14m 8:47 / mi

Solo run. Pretty beaten back by the mugginess. Tested out some new insoles to provide better fascia support.

A run with A at what felt like a 4 today.

First of the Miami U campus sprints. Ran them 1, 2, 3. As they went, I put more effort into each one and I felt underpowered mostly for not having really run in 2 weeks but my back was mostly fine. Next day, marginally worse than or equal to Sat am. Stretched between each run.

The first course had some substantial bobbles especially around controls 11 (wrong trail) and 12 (still confused a bit coming onto the lane around Bishop's Woods). Runs 2 and 3 were better; I mostly skipped the control numbers and clues to try speed up. I found the second two sprints to be long for me to give a sprinting effort but they were definitely fun.

I can't remember ever running with the intent of getting warm enough to stretch and that is it. Check. (Maybe I need a better bucket list.)

Given that I had help putting on socks this morning, I'm pretty stoked.

Verdict -- time and ibuprofen for muscle strain. Hopefully, it will feel enough better by the weekend because not running during the beautiful weather is not an RX for happiness.

Overslept, but could have just snuck into the OLOU mass start. My back? has been causing me trouble all week. Missing Omeet gave me the impetus schedule a doctor's appt. next week.

Note
(injured)

My left heel has become a real bother, slowing my runs and even messing with walking once the adreneline is gone. As much as I would like to run my self silly this first week of summer, I intend on not running at all until next weekend to provide a longer window to allow some healing to occur. An attempt to take the long view....

Orienteering race 1:30:12 [3] **** 8.6 km (10:29 / km) +200m 9:24 / km
spiked:9/15c shoes: X-Talon 212

A bifurcated run. The first half, I ran pretty dismally. I took the first of 3 headers, all on trails, enroute to control 1 (fortunately out of site of the start). I really loved the map and Ali's course but did not have any sense of what the map would be like. There were so many tag lines and negative features and basically no streams, that I was ill-prepared to simplify the map in ways that I could properly run. After I had made it most of the way to control 7 the floundering began to rapidly subside. Nevertheless, I had lost pretty much 20 minutes in a handful of places, a few of them errors (wrong reentrant at 4 and neutralized by a distracting extra trail and poor focus for 5), more than a few minutes letting the vegetation control me rather than the reverse (especially approaching 3 and leaving 6), and a significant amount of time dithering on navigating or map reading (basically everywhere C1-7). Speed was a bit of an issue, and was very obvious as I was hazed by Tom after control 11. I chased a bit but half-heartedly as I wasn't in a mindset to hold him.

The best legs were 11 and 15 that were interesting trying to pick the best path across a pretty convoluted landscape, mostly E of the line on the first and SW of the line on the second. If I had not dithered on the route and bashed through more vines than necessary, I think I could have nicked Mark on 15; maybe next time.

I definitely enjoyed the day and will return and should check out some other SMOC venues.

Today it was 75 degrees and the trail was hard as a rock. I was probably one day from my foot feeling fully good. All together, this was a harder run than last week and less pleasant but I am happy that I made it home and the pace was only off a bit.

This felt like it was at my temperature limit for going the whole way without water.

Cycling 45:59 [3] 11.91 mi (15.5 mph) +27m

Put some air in my tyres and went for a spin. Lots of people using the trail oddly and poorly so it was hard to keep moving at a solid pace.

Let A set the pace which was lots today. Not quite recovered from Thursday's run.

It didn't seem like a nice evening to run. Overcast, cool, a bit damp, and a solid NW wind. Once I left work and got moving I realized the benefits....overcast to eliminate sun burns, cool to conserve water and energy, a bit damp to soften the trail, and the wind, oh, that was not really a perk. Managed to be under 8/mile through the first 10 for sure, the next 0.8 needed a bit of cursing, and then I was on the home stretch.

A darned sight nicer run than the last time I tried this one!
