Road running 24:01 [3] 3.08 mi (7:48 / mi) +18m 7:39 / mi
shoes: Inov 340 Pair #1

Rained for the entire run. But it was a spring warm rain; the drops and the air were about the same temperature (60 F) which was pleasant enough that it was hard to stop running.

Control clearing/setup 20:00 [3]
shoes: Inov 340 Pair #1

Pulled a few controls from Ransberg. Very peaceful.

My sincere thanks to Mike, Pat, Matthew and Dave for helping me with the steep learning curve over the past few months.

Orienteering race 45:23 [4] *** 5.05 km (8:59 / km) +169m 7:42 / km
17c shoes: Inov 340 Pair #1

A fun blend of problems from flyingsquirrel and benjaminhart. Open and faster at the beginning, really steep in the middle (in other terms, getting out of a couple of re-entrants was third-class climbing while running), and then a straightforward ending (thank goodness for this because I was sucking wind on the hill to the go control). Navigationally, my day was better than typical with only one full-on error (crossing too low over the spur to the re-entrant before 8?), but there was a bit too much veering off line and tentativeness near the controls. It was a good race, great weather, and a truly spectacular ride through the pine trees to the finish (both as a spectator and competitor).
