Eagle Creek dripfest
Pretty rotten weather, sub 40F drizzle and showers. I decided that I wanted to approach things from a different direction than normal so I went NW first and then clockwise for a while. If I had been feeling fresh and planned, it might have worked out. X and X
Nevertheless, not getting the central and southerly high-pt controls at the beginning is senseless. X
Also, I didn't pack anything to keep my punch card dry so it went in and out of my map bag until I had to switch to punching the map. X
After a while, I couldn't really punch the map either but I kept trying. X
By the time I made it to the S end, C26 was no longer on my map and several of the other controls were on paper shards separated by air. Trying to find map bits in my bag actually used up a really significant amount of time. X
In the end, I got 19 controls leaving 25,26 and 15,12,11,8, and 9 and had a 6 min penalty. But with the highest control/min deduction, 34 pts shrank to 18. X
Too many Xs.
While my toes, which were very frosty and immobile by the end, got bashed into the ends of my shoes for a lot of the return and I was drenched and frustrated, I was happy to be running in the woods. I might be crazy.
