CLARO Brimham Rocks

Still pretty cold - some light snow whilst out on the course.

Bit of a wobble on #1, but ok through to #5.
#6 Tried to simplify by using path junction / veg boundary (I found the mapping of the rock inconsistent and difficult to interpret throughout); couldn't find the flag on corresponding crag. Searched about, getting cold and disheartened, until eventually locating it further north than expected. Chas was checking the site as he believed it to be misplaced [5mins 30s]
#10 No bearing; missed way to the SE [90]
#16 'Safe' route round the path with theoretically better running. In reality path was slow and marshy and much easier to miss the control (I was too high) [2mins 30s]
#22 Overshot [20]
#23 Descriptions had disintegrated, map was disintegrating; didn't know what I was looking for so simply hunting around the various rock features [60]
#27 Got stuck at the top of a big cliff. Getting very tired [40]
#29 Just very tired! [30]

Reality check after yesterday; fitness not up to bashing through deep heather / tussocks / bilberry and nav not up to actually having to take bearings and read the detail! Very cold and hungry post race - no warm down - but lots of stretching (as always!)

LEI Bradgate & Swithland

Frosty day with a cold wind.

The parkland was rapid and very straightforward, although low hung controls in ditches / hollows did at least mean that the flags weren't making it even simpler by acting as beacons.

There was scope for the woodland to offer a contrast, but the planning was poor (too few controls, legs parallel to major paths) meaning the dead running to get to and from the wood seemed even more of a waste.

Still enjoyable - mistakes minimal and running improved once more.

Running 29:43 [3] 6.19 km (4:48 / km) +16m 4:44 / km
(injured) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 August 2014

Normally struggle after eating but felt fairly sprightly so headed off down the canal at a pace I haven't attempted for a while. Turned around at 15mins and tried to beat my time back - made a little harder by the gradual incline. Managed it, but it wasn't easy. Left calf painful on the return (back) as well as groin (badminton).

Home match vs Honeywell A playing with Louis.

First match this season for me - team record so far P5 L5. 'Friendly fire' had removed my erstwhile partner Mick - racket to the eye from Sean in the last match. This fixture was against fellow strugglers and was effectively a must win if we have designs on staying in Division One.

Played as 3rd pair and got off to a winning start in 2. Went downhill from there, losing both other games also in 2 - back not brilliant but better than expected; shot making was our downfall (too many free points).

Ryan / Alex and Sean / Abid fared a little better; both winning in 3 vs the 1st and 3rd pairs and losing in 3 vs the 2nd pair. Overall 5-4 victory :)
