MAROC Deeside Night Cup Shooting Greens.

Working in Peterhead (!) tomorrow so had the day to get there. Cheeky stop off near Banchory for O and Ashvale F&C!

Hadn't been to this area before - was pleasant but too much bracken hiding rocky ground to get up much speed in the terrain.

Bagged first start and had the course to myself - other than a handful of lights at a course crossover point pretty isolated!

Made a bit of a hash of #3 and #7 but overall better than my embarrassing outings in this series last year!

Results awaited due to two controls having their numbers interchanged creating general confusion.

Edit: First two legs voided (which I did well and it was only the code on the first that was wrong...)

DVO Birchen Edge

Pleasant new area; mostly runnable; good map and course.

#3 Tempted in early by another control. Pretty sure it wasn't mine, but... [25]
#4 On a decent line; resisting heading towards the visible boulders for a while, but then after seeing the pole (?) decided this must be the x on the map (it was actually the o). As I diverted away the low boulders and supplementary post became visible and I corrected [15]
#6 Thought I had been forced north when descending the slope so turned down the path initially (when actually on the correct line). Subsequently spotted opposing wall and corrected but still took a while to find the feature / flag [50]
#7 Bit high [10]
#8 Route seemed to maximise marsh running! [30]
#10 Forced low by rocks; better to stay high [15]
#15 Route ok I think. Bit hesitant towards the end.
#16 Unclear why I was fastest here!
#17 Having gel; drifted south [30]
#19 Might have been slightly quicker to utilise path more towards end of leg.
#21 Really struggling to move against very strong opposing wind! Also difficult to pick out features in the distance to aim for. Succeeded eventually and not tempted by decoy control this time! [45]
#22 Nice terrain here.
#26 Better to maintain height but I wanted to get out of the rocks asap [60]

Enjoyed it; had the best of the weather and few complaints from back / left side :)

CLARO Killinghall Moor

Not sure whether to bother; nasty conditions and not the best area in the world. Glad I did though as the map had been updated to at least create some sort of valid navigational challenge. Rain also abated slightly.

#2 Initially resolved to avoid indistinct path through thick vegetation, but got tempted onto it as it looked ok; rapidly deteriorated and I had to bail out into the field through loads of grot [50]
#3 Better to retrace steps and attack from the field [30]
#9 Took the top route but overshot slightly. Lower path better anyway [25]
#10 Misidentified which path I was on so looking on thicket too far west initially [15]

3rd; <2min behind Jack Wood seems to be not too shabby.

Hoping for tennis but wind and rain drove me indoors... never to emerge again!
