Away Match vs Wakefield Warriors A playing with Matt

Another different pairing for me. Played ok at times but generally too inconsistent. Lost all three 2-0. As did Sean / Abid. Alex / Ryan were a bit closer and may have picked up one but I left early so not sure.
Presumed 9-0 loss.

Car issues yesterday en route to Sunderland - had to leave it in Durham being fixed and go back up to collect it today. Bit delayed setting out for this event as a consequence. Two accidents on the A1 on the way so got to the event a bit late.

Got ready as quickly as I could, quick stretch, then off ~3m 30s after the mass start.

Anticlockwise loop. Had a bit of trouble early on looking for a dodgy hide that didn't seem to exist, then a little more time loss looking for a clearing and a distinctive tree; both instances where the veg didn't seem to fit. Biggest time loss on the last control I visited (104) though, where there was an extra unmapped ditch to the west. Found it just as Liam Harrington and I were about to bail - finished 12s early.

Warm down plan was to help collect, but too long waiting around meant I was getting cold so instead settled for a whole 100m jog back to the car...

SYO Canklow Middle

Cold day, lots of brambles; arguably made it easier as one tended to stick to the paths more - hence few errors.

#2 Slight detour south into the fight before correcting [10]
#8 Started up wrong (open) valley initially before correcting [10]
#12 No zip on the hill at all [15]
#24 Poor exit route [10]
#27 Believed the map but convinced cutting through the green would have been quicker [15]

5th; 7m down on Will Gardner.

AIRE Meanwood Park

New area to me; better than expected.

Few controls where micro routes would have saved 10s or so; #1 where I reached the top of the boulder group when the control was nestled at the bottom, #4 where I got stuck in the green leaving #3 and #6 where the western route would have been slightly shorter.

#13 Headed to wrong block of trees initially then couldn't fathom map. Eventually found control buried in a bramble patch [90]
#15 Someone had asked for assistance (having lost their map) on the previous leg; loss of concentration led to no plan for this leg and being off to the south. Simple bearing would have nailed it [2m 30s]
#21 Unable to match mapped paths to ground. Eventually just headed to the open; should have done this sooner [1m 10s]
F Yep, time loss on the finish... It wasn't a taped route despite claims on the control descriptions and it wasn't located at the centre of the circle so with no description to go on... [30] They moved it after I complained.

Finished 4th, 4m 30s down on Joe Woodley.
