NYD Score at Nine Wells.

Haven't run here much which is good - but that's probably because of the small size and narrow shape, as such not ideal for a score. Especially if there are only 23 controls. All worth the same. And there are no twists other than controls split onto both sides of the map...

So same format as last year and same plan for me - marking both odd and even controls on same side of map.
Slightly backfired this year as pen stopped working because of the rain meaning my last few circles were rather faint. Also probably wasn't worth it due to narrow area and the fact that odd / even controls tended to be in clusters, meaning flipping the map over would have worked fine.

Went to 43 first then looped clockwise - think order was probably close to optimal.
People everywhere to start with, then gradually worked through quite a gang of people on the NW slope until I was on my own. Bit of time loss climbing hill to 41 - too far west.

Got back to finish and punched. Started meandering to download and idly flipped map over - spotted unfamiliar control and realised that I had missed out 52 due to pen failure! Went and got it (it was the closest one!) and repunched finish, now after Clive (although ultimately I still had a faster time as he must have started before me in the 'mass' start - we've been here before...)

Confessed to Pat as unsure whether this was permitted but he didn't seem bothered as I'd realised before downloading.

Format probably needs refreshing for next year - WNL planning and scoring system with 30 controls of various points seems simplest solution to me... And whatever happened to the Christmas vouchers at controls?

Woods were nice, if a little cold and wet!
