West Point Day 2
One of these days when the hunger for experiences trumps rational decision making. As my ankle felt not too bad in the morning I though i'd give it a try. The tape ended up feeling more like a cast but at least the short running test gave me some reassurance that it should be ok to go out at least for a couple of controls. Tried to conciously control every step when through the stone fields.
Technically I started well until the 5th where I added a swing in the circle. Some hesitations in the bushes to 10 and 11. Got pretty tired towards 12 and blisters starting forming on the left foot because of all the extra coordination work, especially downhill. However, I decided against cutting short - in hindsight another not so wise decision and the large mistake to 14 didn't help to get to the finish. Hesitation on 15 and 16 and first got stuck in the green towards 17 and then was just tired. To keep the concentration on the foot in the downhills felt as tough as the uphills. Glad when I finally made it to the finish.
An absolutely gorgeous day out in Jackie Jones, a great course on a great map and the weather played along nicely. Was definitively worth the pain after the finish. Ankle is swelling up a bit now but I hope that it should be ok for Billygoat in 2 weeks.

West Point Day 1
Didn't check before and was a bit surprised to see that we were running on a 1:15k which made map reading quite challenging in the rocky areas.
Started ok, but some hesitations in the short controls 3/4/5 but probably not adding up to more than 60sec in total.
Not a clean route choice to 6 and went in a bit early through the marsh. Slow but ok up the hills until 12, but on the way out of 12 it happen again and in a short unconcentrated moment I twisted my right ankle.
Hobbling back along the roads as of there. Initial thought was this was it for a while but after some tylenol and cold packs I may reconsider that just to get out a bit tomorrow.
