Have been looking forward to doing an orienteering event on here for a while because the area is one of the best in the Forest.
Started off too fast and died halfway through.
- ended up to the left by 100 metres or so so lost quite a bit there. 0,0,1.
- Bit of an S I think because I wrongly identified which patch of wood to head to. 1,1,0.
- Went straight up the hill, good bit of routechoice there, be interesting to see people's routes. 1,1,1.
- Starting to feel the fast start here. Had seen this on the approach to 3 so no orienteering done. 0,1,0.
- Realised by now that the heather was tough work so ducked out onto the track. 1,1,.
- Lots of people had issues on this one but hit it fine. 1,1,1.
- Kept height but went through some grot, then stopped a bit short. 1,1,1.
- Ended up slightly to the right but this was more because I had picked up a pony trail. 1,1,1.
- Fine. 1,1,1.
- Heading out of 9 my left knee suddenly had a sharp pain which caught me by surprise. Continued running but every 10 steps or so got the pain, particularly going uphill. Very odd as nothing happened just got a sudden pain. Slowed right down. Stopped short. 1,1,1.
- Fine. 1,1,1.
- Another good routechoice leg, was going to head right to save climb but didn't. Not sure which is quickest. 1,1,1.
- Fine. 1,1,1.
- Too far left. 1,0,1.
- Fine. 1,1,1.
- Hidden, but fine. 1,1,1.
Barely looked at my compass, need to be much more disciplined with it.
Really enjoyable course, good variety. Will rerun at some point to try to get closer to 40.
