Running 18:00 [5] 5.04 km (3:34 / km)

So awful, like honestly this is shameful. At least this is the worst it can get.

Running warm up/down 21:11 [2] 3.23 km (6:34 / km) +11m 6:27 / km
shoes: Nike Zoom Elite 7

Baaaad mood, otherwise would have appreciated the cool little island.
4 PM

Running 36:37 intensity: (3:37 @1) + (9:33 @2) + (19:01 @3) + (4:26 @4) 5.9 km (6:12 / km) +248m 5:08 / km

Easy on the Seat. Up radical road, up the steps up to AS then back down and up the top of the crags. Very nice evening for it, felt much better (thankfully) than this morning might suggest. Very slippy though and wrong shoe choice so nearly did an AliMas. Lifted mood considerably.

Running warm up/down 22:48 [3] 5.18 km (4:24 / km) +58m 4:10 / km
ahr:81 max:108 shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 255

Down to FWTN. Got confused and thought I'd been ditched by the others so started going in the right direction with no idea of where it was. Luckily Andy cycled past and being the top guy he is, stopped and cycled with me all the way. This heart rate monitor is clearly broken, I will be writing a strongly worded letter to garmin.

Orienteering 40:56 intensity: (19 @1) + (32:11 @2) + (8:26 @3) 6.63 km (6:10 / km) +74m 5:51 / km
spiked:15/19c shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 255

Started pretty poorly, missing a path as you do. Got back into it, doing ok through the urban. Got swarmed by a group of girls down one street but luckily this is a common occurrence for me so I know how to handle such situations. Mp'd partially due to shit map, partially down to me. Felt pretty tired and just chugged away on my own. In future will try and do this with others as struggle to focus after a long day.

Running warm up/down 15:08 intensity: (19 @1) + (9:09 @2) + (5:40 @3) 2.81 km (5:24 / km) +45m 5:00 / km
ahr:141 max:155 shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 255

Back with the boys. Feeling knackered and starving, probably should have eaten more today. Huge bowl of pasta has failed to fill me up. Rest tomorrow.

Running 1:32:52 intensity: (3:02 @1) + (14:26 @2) + (59:20 @3) + (16:04 @4) 15.41 km (6:01 / km) +588m 5:04 / km
ahr:131 max:181 shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 255

Long, hilly one on the Seat with EUOC in the rain. Fun times and some brutal climbs. Feeling pretty poor on the uphills and stomach not enjoying life at the moment. Was plunged into severe oxygen debt when Ali decided to throw his body down a couple of the descents.
Don't know what's wrong with heart rate monitor, quite annoying really..

Leg stretcher, nice and easy. Kept on the grass and flat. Had tight hamstrings, probably from the deadlifts but they eased off. Was my first run alone since coming up here.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons 212 (4)

Warming up with the England boys. Was very surprised to see how spread out first leg had become, then when the second legs came it became clear we had a huge mountain to climb.

Orienteering 29:54 [5] 5.94 km (5:02 / km) +50m 4:50 / km
spiked:18/20c shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons 212 (4)

It was a Scottish top 4 after 2nd leg: Sasha and Dan sent out a couple of minutes before Tam and Andrew. A couple of minutes after them the English came in. Ali sent out a few metres ahead of me, then Harri and Aidan close behind. We were pretty pumped; a Scottish 1,2,3,4 was looking like a real possibility but equally we knew catching Andy and Tam was doable.
Having seen all the Scots cruise out of the start us English didn't have that luxury and set the necessarily quick tempo. Even after the first couple of controls we could see the scots ahead and the gap had decreased by a significant amount which was encouraging. However, Ali and I (on the same first gaffle) lost some time on 3, maybe about 20-30 seconds of faff. We then lost some more time on 4 from bananaring. At this stage the pace was higher than I could reliably navigate so it was useful to be able to work off the others.
Harri was running very well and was leading the English train. All four of us were essentially together from 5-11. A few minor micro-route choices aside, losing maybe 15 secs in total through these, we were clean and pushing hard. I was just about hanging on, stumbling through the controls making sure the codes were right and a plan was set for the next leg.
12 we probably lost a little more time than we realised in the moment. Harri got a gap and Ali and I faffed around a bit in the undergrowth, I think our navigation was suffering from the oxygen debt. Probably should have hugged the red line a little more. Still, we could see Andy ahead and Harri up there as well. Small miss in the circle though. Dieing to 13, the gap was probably down to about 150m, Harri had pushed on well so thankfully it wasn't going to be a Scots top 4.
From here Ali and I had different gaffling, think we were both a little scrappy through this section but the pace dropped considerably. Struggling through the terrain which got tougher and really losing form. Entered into the field just ahead of Ali but he had more and strolled past.

Mixed emotions about this relay; obviously hugely disappointed with the result, however it was immense to be running in a pack with all the English boys pushing as hard as we could to do a job which was just a little too much. We gave it everything but on the day the Scots performed better; they had it wrapped up before it even got to the 18s which is top work in a relay.

Running warm up/down 8:43 [1] 1.02 km (8:34 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talons 212 (4)

Post-mortem time.
