Sunday Mar 31 #

Running warm up/down 11:17 [2] 2.04 km (5:32 / km)

Running 31:33 [4] 5.63 km (5:36 / km) +250m 4:35 / km

BUCS Relay, Dumyat.

1st leg for the Dalkeith Bad Boys. When we were setting up the assembly I'd assumed the control just the other side of the arena was a spectator, but no it was the start kite - meaning a savage uphill start. A ginger loughborough guy started pretty hard up the hill and I assumed that was Freddie so tried to make sure he didn't get away. Turns out it wasn't Fred, but did mean was at the front at the top of the hill. And from then on it was Jack, Freddie (actually him this time) and myself at the front. We were quite low on 2 and had to go up, plus a nervy leg to a crag but we were going nice and smooth. Then they had a different gaffle and I was on my own. Just tried to keep it chill and not fuck up - thought I'd failed when I searched just about every crag for one of the controls and just waited to be gobbled up, but it didn't happen.
More good stuff from Ali and Tam meant we came 2nd, so that was nice.
Had a lot of fun today - course was really fun, good atmosphere and day was beaut (yet Harri still wore a buff???!!!!!). Happy days!!!!

Wonder how many races there are where pretty much everyone in the field is hanging hard, having had a sweet social and not so much sweet sleep the night before??

Running 7:55 [2] 1.28 km (6:11 / km)

Little WD with some boys.
Also did around 6k with various trips to cars / bogs but not logged.

Saturday Mar 30 #

Running warm up/down 18:00 [2] 2.8 km (6:26 / km) +200m 4:44 / km

WU - basically just gazed at the hills in the distance.

Orienteering 1:00:07 [2] 10.0 km (6:01 / km) +400m 5:01 / km

BUCS Individual - 7th.

Binned ~2/3mins on 8, some more in the butterfly and then again towards the end, so add that to a feeling of dead legs and I was feeling rather dejected at the finish. Really expected to be rinsed by everyone, but actually turned out ok. Can accept the nav being out of practice and dodgy but was quite dissapointed by how hard it felt in the terrain. Was in 2nd at 7 though so can't have been plodding too badly.

Running warm up/down 7:41 [2] 1.7 km (4:31 / km) +37m 4:05 / km

WD with skunky.

Friday Mar 29 #

Running 1:01:38 [2] 12.06 km (5:07 / km) +162m 4:47 / km

Cutting about the seat with Bash. Had planned more but got stressed and ran out of time. Legs also feeling pretty shit so probably not too bad.

Thursday Mar 28 #

7 AM

Running 33:37 [2] 5.72 km (5:53 / km) +140m 5:14 / km

Dalkeith + Felix trip to the crags. Feeling nice and dead, will probably skip session later.
4 PM

Running 59:14 [2] 9.54 km (6:13 / km) +661m 4:37 / km

Legs still dead, so easy climbs on the Seat instead of hard climbs on the Seat. Lovely evening, very much looking forward to this in the summer.

Wednesday Mar 27 #

Running 2:02:58 [2] 22.41 km (5:29 / km) +580m 4:52 / km

Out to Caerketton with Bash. Think we were both feeling a little wrecked so it was a right plod but didn't feel too bad on the climb. Aware of foot the entire time though, would quite like that to piss off.

Note

Little update:

Had a rather fun little patch of road races since Carnethy that seem to have gone well. Considering that the diss and ILW had restricted training quite hard it was surprising to get quite such a large PB at Allan Scally's (15:28 - I'm counting it as a pb even if power of ten isn't :p) and then managed to carry it through KB5 and road Relays.
So now the challenge is to not let the shape plummet whilst in Cyprus for two weeks on a field trip (and missing jk :() . I think I'll sacrifice any social standing I have on the course and spend all free time running. And then hopefully be in OK shape and start hitting up some races (Scottish 5k, dumyat, jura, Scottish Mountain marathon plus more).
Would like to do well at bucs this weekend but have no faith in my current navigational capabilities.
7 AM

Running 42:13 [2] 7.8 km (5:25 / km) +149m 4:56 / km

KF + crags with Bash and Ali. Big fan of Holyrood on a sunny morning.
6 PM

Running 1:15:38 [3] 15.87 km (4:46 / km) +40m 4:42 / km

EUOC meadows intervals: 2 x 1200m, 2 x 1k, 2 x 800m, 4 x 200m with ~2mins recovery between everything apart from the 200s when it was longer.
Started quite hard, then had to try really bloody hard to keep going. Had a lot of fun tonight; everyone seemed up for ruining themselves, and taking pleasure in doing so. Plus there was plenty of hype for the last rep, which was a filthy affair that I had no hope of competing in.
Properly dazed afterwards and in need of some tasty scran.
Splits:
1200 - 3:29, 3:32
1000 - 2:53, 2:55
800 - 2:24, 2:24
200 - all 28

Monday Mar 25 #

Running 57:38 [2] 9.51 km (6:04 / km) +407m 5:00 / km

Looping about on the Seat. Feeling alright and pretty sweet evening so didn't drag at all. Foot has been getting quite tender after running at the mo though which is slightly irritating. Not concerned by it at all, just an inconvenience that mileage will help solve.
