Note

Felt very tired these last few days, as soon as it hits mid afternoon I've got very little energy and struggle to do much. Hopefully that starts to improve soon, not sure how long it's expected to be like that. Have had plenty of sleep, and not been working (took Thurs/Fri off for OMM and thought I'd keep them off). Do feel hungry quite a lot but it's a sleepy tired more than anything.
11 AM

Running 1:18:52 [2] 13.77 km (5:44 / km) +186m 5:22 / km
ahr:160 max:188

BnB with Will.

9.3 immediately pre. Felt really quite bonky about half an hour in so checked and it was 5.3. Given feels and magnitude of drop went for a couple of caramel bars and that did seem to have a positive impact on feels, and still only 5.1 upon finishing.

About 20mins later I was up to 8.1 before another half dose, but dropped to 3.7 about 90mins later which I wasn't expecting.

Went up to 11.2 early evening but then down to the 4s from 8ish. Seems to have fluctuated quite a lot today and % within range is lowest for a few days (but still >80%).

Running 38:26 [2] 7.69 km (5:00 / km) +82m 4:45 / km
ahr:156 max:179

Seat lap, felt a real struggle to get myself out and then to do.

12.3 immediately before, had risen above range in hour preceding despite not eating since before 2 went it had dropped to 4.2.

Dropped to 5.4 post run, so quite an effect. Another 50% rapid dose afterwards again seemed to avoid the lows, and actually went up to 11.2 before bed (although that may also have been some poor carb estimations).

Note
(rest day)

In the Lakes, went for a very enjoyable walk and lunch, but didn't feel the need/desire to run. Nailed the blood sugars and noticed waiter at lunch also diabetic.

Running 34:27 [2] 6.03 km (5:43 / km) +123m 5:11 / km
ahr:154 max:173

Crags with Felix and Bisset.

7.2 pre and 10.9 post. Not sure why it went higher without eating and after exercise.

Went down to 7.8 about 90mins after, then back up to above 10 until post lunch. This was first time I tried 50% dose of fast insulin after exercise and seems to have succesfully avoided going too low, if anything perhaps 75% would work well.

Think I averaged >90% in range this day so new record. Felt alright through the day but lethargic in afternoon.

Running 36:29 [2] 6.09 km (5:59 / km) +129m 5:25 / km
ahr:151 max:176

Crags loop with the morning crew, fun way to start the day. 100% rain forecast and not a drop felt.

9.7 when woke up, 10.7 immediately pre. Took the 4 units of slow stuff, didn't eat anything.

10.3 immediately post, dropped to 9.2 ~25mins later, at which point I had 14 rapid units as 144g carbs for brekkie. Felt a bit spaced out.

Went up to 13.1 not long after podge but then dropped down to 4.4 roughly 3 hours post run.

Today has been 87% in target zone, highest yet. General pattern was high early morning, dropping to trough in late morning, picking up over lunch, dropping down to 4.5ish in mid/late afternoon and then picking up over dinner (8s). Seems to make sense.

Had calls with GP and dietician today, both of whom seem pretty happy with how it's going. Both referencing runsweet website so will give that a good read. GP has background in sports nutrition so think that's promising for 'getting' the running. Dietician wants me to try doing a 50% rapid dose post run next time to see if that smooths the downward curve a little.

Also, everyone seems to think I eat a lot of carbs.

Running 1:02:44 [2] 9.56 km (6:34 / km) +300m 5:40 / km
ahr:162 max:183 weight:65kg

Some solo seat wandering. Tourist path to saddle, Seat, top of MFD, loop of Whinny, down dry dam, up Purkos, down the Wang, loop of crags. Enjoyed being out and plodding away in my own little world. And there can be no denying my Valgrosina / Ramsay playlist is full of bangers.

Blood sugars have been pretty good today - mostly ~10 and 75% in target zone, although feels have not been so great (v sleepy and spaced out).

Immediately pre-run = 7.4. Had a caramel bar (25g carbs) too to see how that would impact things.

Feelings during run were pretty good. Running itself felt easier than it had been the last few weeks, which had often been characterised by feeling weak / empty / powerless and some bad breathing too - although the gradual decline meant this was not super obvious at the time. So it's nice to enjoy feeling more normal before feeling normal becomes the normal.

11.7 immediately post run. Kinda surprised the net impact of run + caramel bar was an increase, find that quite interesting.

7.9 ~50mins after run and pre-meal / rapid insulin. Felt generally quite tired and irritable at this point.

5.6 ~2hrs after run and post meal / rapid insulin. Still feeling sleepy but not irritable.

Perhaps suggests the caramel bar works quite well to avoid getting too low during or just after run. The 11.6 could also mean it would do for longer than that. The drop to 5.6 could be impact of run or impact of insulin.
10 PM

Note

Just after posting the above my alarm went off saying glucose <4. Had a caramel bar (25g) and now back above but not by much (5.2).

Running 49:50 [2] 8.35 km (5:58 / km) +136m 5:31 / km
ahr:152 max:179

Bog, KF and crags with a good bunch. V nice to be out.

12.6 mmol/L immediately pre-run, having been quite high and above target (4-10) for most of the day.

6.2 mmol/L immediately post-run and then dropped to 4.4 over the next half hour or so.

Didn't eat any food either pre or post run until meal to see what happened.

Had 11 units rapid ~10mins pre dinner. Bit nervous as to whether this would send it <4 but seems ok (6.4 post dins, having been 5.0 pre). Although numbers fine, felt a bit shakey, spaced out and anxious during/just after food. Have been told that it's normal to feel hypo even when numbers ok to begin with as body adjusts to lower blood sugars again.

All in all, think that was a successful first run.
11 PM

Note

Actually ended up going into the 3s. Didn't want that before sleeping so tanned a couple of caramel bars and within 30mins it was back up to 9s. Hopefully doesn't get too high overnight. Thrilling game this is.
