Fat Bike Folly:

After crashing for a good 15 hours, I tried out Fat Biking with STORM in Bracebridge. We rented bikes from Muskoka Outfitters and road close to town. I would have totally bailed if we hadn't paid for the rentals in advance.

I must say, I was disappointed with the lack of traction on the snowmobile trails we tried and figure there are still very limited conditions under which Fat bikes are worth the effort. Today's deep and granular snow was very similar to riding in deep sand ( ie sucked). It was much more fun to ride on snow covered residential roads so we switched to that after a while. I suspect that flat, well packed-down walking trails would be the best conditions for these types of bikes, either that or maybe more experience.

Still, better than couch surfing and always fun to try out something new.

Snowshoe Raid:

Very fun race this year, with zero road running. My smartest decision of this race was picking up an older coworker that would put us into a much less competitive category - Masters Coed. He had no idea there would be lots of tumbling down steep hills and lots of face plants, but he liked it and will spread the word to his road runner friends. Getting the second map with lots of time was good luck since we were able to pick off lots of CPs from both maps on our second loop around Lorrie.

Despite a rare category-win, I got deliriously ill after the race. :( Snow poisoning could be the only cause since I skipped the post-race meal.

Thanks to Bob for putting on another great race!
