Mini Canoe Trip to Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park

Storm and I shortened our plans for a 3 day canoe trip into a one day mini adventure in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. We drove up north Saturday night just in time to sleep in the parking lot boat launch at access point 6 on Beaver Lake Road and were on the water by 900am. We followed a lollipop stye route through Mississauga, Gold and Anstruther Lakes before hitting the actual park for the loop section. Here's part of the loop:

We paddled across a few cottage lakes outside the park which were strikingly quiet in the morning hours. Inside the park we paddled the Serpentine Loop clockwise and stopped to jump off rocks, swim, picnic. Storm was successful at learning to walk on water.

This part of the park is very pretty with excellent portages, gorgeous campsites that you can reserve, and very little development/motorized vehicles. We spotted this guy on Copper Lake, who was chilling watching the peeps go by.

Leaving the park we were aggravated by a gazillion jet skis and power boats who made our journey back to the car extra adventurous with their wakes and unpredictable travel routes.

This is a great area for some hard core AR training as there are lots of ATV trails in the area and the bushwhacking looks not too bad with the rocky landscape. I think it would be fun to paddle into a reserved site - set up tents and then go bushwhack for a few hours, camp for a wee bit, and then return back to the boat launch for a bike ride....maybe next year since the timing is perfect right now.
