| I'm not sure if I would call what I did today orienteering. Vision, or lack thereof, definitely played a significant role, and that's my main takeaway from the weekend - I need contacts for orienteering in wet conditions, even if its not raining. Many mistakes, but not looking at the map very often (or rather not gleaning any information from the map when I did look at it) tends to do that. I also cannot exercise that long and only ingest water. I need to look into getting appropriate amounts of electrolytes and carbohydrates both during the race.
All in all, a fun weekend which would have been much more enjoyable without the vision problems. I never really felt overwhelmed by the highly technical glaciated terrain, and feel confident that I could learn to race well on this type of terrain in the future. Unfortunately, a mispunch, an overtime, and two vision-affected sprints will not help with my USOF ranking. |

| Tied my glasses on again and put a bright orange streamer on them in case they still fell off or the string broke to avoid a repeat of yesterday's first sprint. I also borrowed some defogging wipes from Edwin which worked to the extent that my glasses didn't fog. However, the rain streaked them so badly I couldn't see the map through them and after stopping every so often to lift them and read the map, I just ended up taking them off. Off or on, I couldn't see the ground very well in front of my feet nor very far into the distance, so I ended up walking most of the course. I also found out after the fact that I mispunched. I had been planning ahead and expect to see my control, so when I came across a flag when I was expecting one, I must have just punched it and moved on, going almost right pass my control in the process. That's a new one for me and probably wasn't helped by my vision problems. Other than that, I ended up veering way off-course on sections where I was intending to run/walk to a catching feature. I'm not going to worry about this run as I felt that I could read the map fairly well - it was just hard to execute without being able to see the map and terrain in front of me. I will try wearing a hat tomorrow, but am going to look into contacts for future meets which would have made today's wet event much more enjoyable. |

| On my hands and knees for five minutes searching for my glasses after a branch wacked them off halfway through the course. Lost a bit of desire after that. |

| Solid run. A little too many pauses toward the end, partially out of fatigue and partially from the constant fogging up of my glasses. |
