Orienteering 35:16 [4] 4.5 km (7:50 / km)
shoes: Green Integrators

Orange course at river bend park, GCO. It was actually a pretty fun course. The map was a little funky. It was an old map, recently augented with new lidar contours (2 ft, yikes!), but not field checked.

I kept trying to slow down and read the detail, with no sucess. Vegetation was out of date, and a lot of the contour detail just didn't exist. I really couldn't figure out what was going on till I got back and somebody explained the map history. Once they field check this map though, I think it will be a really cool little venue.

Note

A fun and succesful Red Bluff training weekend! A small turnout, just 16 people. But the weather was perfect and there were people from all around.

Orienteering 1:12:00 [3] 5.4 km (13:20 / km)
shoes: Green Integrators

Difficult run at Sunol. No major errors, but high temperatures, very steep hills, and blistered feet really slowed me down. That and my terrible fitness levels. Probably walked as much as I ran.

Biking 4:00:00 [2]

Joined a gang of MSE grad students and others for a pretty cool day of biking. We took BART into San Francisco, then biked over the Golden Gate Bridge and up to visit a German lodge in Muir Woods. Very cool.

Orienteering 25:00 [2]

Jogging to put out controls. I certainly wasn't running hard, but I had to move relatively quickly because I had caught a late bus getting home from work.

A great little gathering. About 18 people turned out. No complaints about the mapping. The weather was perfect. Dinner and darts afterward was fun.

Climbing 40:00 [3]

Evening climbing, top rope. Did a 5.11a on the back wall, though I think the difficulty was overestimated.

Orienteering 41:52 [4] 4.5 km (9:18 / km) +180m 7:45 / km
shoes: Green Integrators

Did a very long and physical brown course. Brown is a good distance right now, since it is long enough to stretch things out and loosen the legs, but short enough that I don't make things worse.

My navigation was pretty strong, I thought. Running was ok, but obviously I'm still out of shape. Some bobbles were due to poorly mapped control sites (4,6,7,10) or misplaced controls (10,11). Except for 4 though, I confident and correct about my location.

Places I could have done better were control 3 (18 seconds. Overshot above the reentrant, should have made a better plan and come from below) and number 4 (25 seconds, picked a poor route, that required running around a steep gully).

Some easy running, and lots of streching. Felt kindof sore.
