Orienteering (Mapping) 5:00 [3]

Thursday Dec 21, 2006 #

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Sauconey Grid 9s

Tilden Park. Slippery run in the rain on the Selby trail. It's my favorite type of trail, mostly flat with plenty of grade change to keep things interesting. The clay surface was really slippery today with the rain though. It was best when it went under cover of the redwoods.
-Not sure if I'll be mapping tomorrow. I had my laptop and cell phone stolen today, so I don't have all the tools to prepare for the trip. Seems like every time I get optimistic about living in california, something happens to change my opinion.

Running 50:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks (White Yellow Black)

Fire trail to bench and back.

Tomorrow morning I think I'll be heading to Red Bluff, to map around Perry Riffle. Should be back Friday evening. -OK, weather update says 80% chance of rain. Can't map in rain, might go for a quick trip friday though.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks (White Yellow Black)

Fire Trail. To the connector and back. Quite cold out. There was frost at one of the trail bends.

Running 27:00 [2]

Second run for the day. A jog around campus. Lets see if I can use this break to really get in shape.

Orienteering race 1:36:00 [4] 7.1 km (13:31 / km)

Bon Tempe event.
Very fun terrain. The map is simple with few contours, but they are well placed (excepting the hillside of death). I like that style of map - puts more emphasis on interpretation and less on eyesite.

Terrain was great and reminded me of home a bit. I felt like I was running a lot better than last week, although my results were not so good. On a micro navigation basis I did a lot better, but the mistakes I made were signifcantly bigger in terms of time. (Of course, the control was misplaced on two of these occasions, but I still should have made better decisions).
