Note

I've had some interesting thoughts after Sunday evening's trail run. The run felt great. I was doing a fast pace - sub 6:30 miles, and just felt like I was flying. This was not new, but typically I wouldn't be able to sustain it for so long during training.

But what made this interesting was the realization that running a 6:30 pace felt fundamentally different than running a 7:30 pace. Consider that there are major differences in mechanics between walking and jogging, jogging and running, or running and sprinting. In a more subtle way, I wonder if there is a difference between my 'slow run' at 7:30 min/mile and a faster run at 6:00 min/mile.

So, is it possible that my workouts have built leg strength and cardio to the point that I'm now able to train with a different, faster gait? If so, there could be exciting consequences!

Running 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Hiking 20:00 [1]
shoes: Columbia

Walk home.

Biking 1:30:00 [2]

Decided to go cycling for a change of pace. A good chance to rest after yesterday's hard running workout. Did the Bayshore trail with the cycling club.
I think this is the approximate route. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2163524

Orienteering 11:55 [4] 2.7 km (4:25 / km)
shoes: Grid Cohesions

Vetting

Orienteering 10:00 [1]

Field Checking

Running 56:00 [3] 6.9 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: Grid Cohesions

Out and back on the fire road, to the top of the extender.
It was good to do a flattish run, since one of the muscles in my left leg is sore when I climb steep hills.

I felt really fast today, and I was running fast too. When I checked my pace toward the end, it was at 6:26/mile. I think that the last few months of training are really paying off.
