Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] 10 km (12:00 / km)
shoes: Kainuu Integrators
Drove up to Tahoe for the weekend with Jonas and Mikkel! It was a great weekend of camping and training.

The first day we ran a training course at Fallen Leaf Lake. The forest was slashy and slow running. My hamstrings were already sore, and combining that with dehydration and altitude - this was a very slow day.

It was really physically difficult to keep moving through the undergrowth, and my speed picked up a lot after a 5-minute break.

Out and back to rose garden, easy pace with the RC. When that was done, a few of us decided to run further, out and back up the fire trails.

Lake Merrit 'time is on your side' run. This meant you guessed your time in advance, and no watches allowed on the course.

I'm ok with this result, it's certainly better than my last 5k. But I was hoping for a little faster. Some of the regulars said that this is a pretty slow course, and they can run almost 30 seconds faster on other courses. I found this hard to believe, but it makes me feel better.

I started the course setting the pace, but another runner took the lead about 1 mile in. I appreciated having someone to draft off of, but he was running a hair slower than I would care for. At the 2 mile mark, I finally decided I needed to set the pace again. This lasted for 2/3 of a mile before the other runner started his kick and left me behind. I think that better pacing could have helped me time a lot, but it would be hard without some others to help drive the pace.
Running 30:00 [1] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Grid Cohesions
Running around Lake Merrit. Checking controls, setting controls, etc...
For Rex's first TerraLoco meet.
