Running (road) 1:12:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

attacked by another dog today! full on teeth, snarling, snapping and dragging his post he was attached to; what irresponsibly owners do this crap! a passerby was good enough to see everything, since the dog darted out right in front of him, and the passerby stopped and started to lend a hand to chase it away.

paddling (kayak) 2:00:00 [3] 7.25 mi (16:33 / mi)

up to cottonwood lake, wind died down nice, for a fairly pleasant paddle, a bit on cool side temp-wise, but managed to stay comfortable.

Running (intervals) 51:00 [3] 5.8 mi (8:48 / mi)

did intervals today and ended on nerve racking note. my intention was to run the last 2 mi at 90 % effort, and maintain until finished. I was goin' along great about, .5 mi in and suddenly out of the corner of my eye I see/hear a boxer dog, charging from a yard across a shallow ditch and across the road to me, beeline style with teeth, and that seriously pissed off growl and bark; startled me and I was essentially defenseless. Of course the owner yells the dogs name once and the dog continues it's assault, it lunged and I kicked gravel and moved, kicked gravel again as it lunged again, and it began to circle and move away; meanwhile I was yelling at it 'no', go home....get outta here. The presumed owner starts to get on me for kicking the sand at his dog and yelling, and I'm still trying to watch his dog and he's yelling 'no need for that' and then ' you wanna get dropped'. I couldn't believe what I heard and he said it again, I yelled for him to control his 'god d!!!mn dog' (seriously stressed out) and ' I'm on a public road'; I was moving away from the dog/area the whole time and it continued to circle me. as soon as I turned to continued running, the dog started towards me again, and I scorned the guy, and said 'really!?' He again said 'you wanna get dropped' and I told him 'f-bomb you' and kept going; I couldn't believe his attitude.

I couldn't believe it, his thinking that I was at fault here and no sense of apology from him, really burned my buns. Irresponsible dog owners, can't believe there are so many.....not the dogs fault at all, but someone is going to get hurt, either another person, or the dog. If you're a dog owner, small or large dog, don't let this habit continue or better yet, train you're dog not to do this behavior at all. I'm a dog lover, and we have three dogs, and this behavior is not tolerated from them and they (dogs) know it.

orienteering race (red) 1:19:04 [4] 7.3 km (10:50 / km)

o meet lake maria: great day ,great park. using a newer compass to me, wrist compass, still getting used to it. 1st two comtrols had trouble staying contact with the map properly, and compass was distracting. Feel like thumb compass may be better choice for this type of nav, and wrist comp. better for rogaine or AR style nav. I'll give wrist comp. some time. On way to 4th and 5th control, compass bit me (actually my fault) and did not figure it out until 150 m into leg. one poor route choice,. did ok for knocking the rust out.
2 PM

orienteering race (brown course) 41:00 [4] 3.8 km (10:47 / km)

decided to do a second course for practice. obviously, bit easier routes, and some controls were the same as earlier, but did best to read map at all times. smoother run, figured out compass a bit better. beautiful woods
3 PM

orienteering (control pickup) 35:00 [3] 1.5 mi (23:20 / mi)

good practice.
