Crazy weather on and off all day. Torrential rain, gusty winds, thunder and periods of sunshine. After a week of heat warnings (which we still have), I'd been looking forward to a longer run but it wasn't the day for it.

When we saw a break in the storms on radar, 'Bent and I snuck out for a run around the Palgrave trails. Glad we waited!

It felt like 150% humidity in a steamy jungle. We didn't get too far from home in case we needed to bail. An hour after we finished, there was a tornado warning - yikes!

The judge instructed us to bring our overnight bags on the eve of my birthday since the jury might be sequestered in a hotel. On my last two birthdays, I did overnight wilderness treks - the World Rogaining Champs and the Killarney Loop. Trekking for 24+ hrs is tough but it's easier and a lot more fun than making a decision that affects someone's life. Imagine what it must be like for a judge who has to do this all the time!

Sitting in the jury box, Day 1. Heavy stuff.

I'm a major Googler and it's driving me crazy that I'm not allowed to look up any relevant info until after the verdict - points of law, details of this specific case, witnesses etc. Sure, I could get away with it but I want to do things right so I'm resisting the urge many times a day.

I've finally posted a report (mostly photos) of our relaxing Algonquin canoe trip with the Timato/Tiny family last weekend. Aubrey (Teeny Tiny) and AdventureDog were awesome rookie canoe trippers.

Hockley Provincial Park loop - out via the three side trails and back on the main Bruce Trail. I tried to push out of my comfort zone, which I don't do often enough. While the sun was behind clouds, it was beautiful summer running weather. When the clouds faded away, it got steamy. I encountered 4-5 dozen hikers at different times, most of whom were great. Many of them called out encouragement and at least one hiker took a photo of the crazy runner lady. But there are always a few people who just don't like being passed on a trail, no matter how polite you are. Luckily, they're a small minority.

I feel pretty good about this run, especially since I'm dragging an extra 5 lb uphill compared to a month ago when we returned from Italy. No ice cream for me this week!

Mountain Biking (Trail & Country Road) 32:00 [2] 8.2 km (15.4 kph)

Rode to and from Eugenius' 50th birthday party, hosted by his in-laws who live beside Albion Hills. Eugenius is a wine expert so we thought we might want to ride home on trails. :) It turned out to be like an Italian wedding banquet - incredible food and lots of it! Whenever we thought we were done, another overflowing platter came out the door. We tasted a few nice wines and some 50-year-old port but after this morning's run, I drank more water than anything else - and espresso. The ride home from their place is uphill - oooofff. Welcome to your new age group, Eugenius!
