It rained most of the day - just pelting down at times! Dundas took the prize though.

With single digit temperatures, it was a good day to test rain gear for a mountain race so I did a trail run from the main entrance of Glen Haffy on my way to Yoga/Core class. The trails featured plenty of mud and slippery wooden bridges and boardwalks but it was a fun run. I was attacking the hills better than usual and my rain jacket kept me warm, if not completely dry (because I was sweating). No one else was around and the park is officially closed - kinda eerie.

Note

A robin has been attacking our house for the past week, sometimes several times a minute during daylight hours. The best solution is to cover the entire window with paper or cardboard so he will leave and do something useful - like finding a mate - but this robin has been attacking *every* window so I think we'll just have to live with it. Maybe it's better if he doesn't reproduce anyway!

Quick loop in Palgrave East with Crash while she let me ride her new Pivot Mach 429SL Carbon mountain bike. I've been looking online at the Pivot Mach 4 Carbon, which is similar but a little less of a race horse. It's also 27.5 while Crash's Pivot is a 29er that also takes 27+. Darn, she got me thinking about wheel size again, just when I thought I was sure. :)

Glorious spring day before two rainy days in the forecast. Should I use my spare time to run, bike or paddle? Nah, too predictable. How about a nice trip out of town for a routine mammogram? Time = 2 minutes, Intensity level = 5+.

OK, time to get serious again! I did an 82K trail race in late February and a 55K trail race in early April. The time in between was a rudderless mash-up of recovery, taper and overeating but I have enough upcoming events on the calendar that some planning will be needed:

1) 8-hr adventure race (3.5 weeks away)
2) 40K Canoe race (5.5 weeks away)
3) 100K Mountain bike race (6.5 weeks away)
4) Four 40K mountain runs each averaging 3,000 m elevation gain on four consecutive days (20 weeks)

For the next month and a half, I'll do multisport training that's heavier on running, and I'll hope to not suck too much in the paddle and bike races. By early June, I'll need to focus on training for mountain running - lots of time on my feet, hill climbs and some back-to-back-to-back-to-back training days.

This haphazard schedule may lead to a bunch of mediocre race performances but I'm feeling motivated to do some work!

Today AdventureDog and I ran from Innis Lake Road north on the Bruce Trail through Glen Haffy to the top of the descent to Hwy 9, then we ran back the way we came. There were a few dog stops and people chats along the way. The weather was spectacular and I *finally* started the Serial podcast a few years after the rest of the world.

Caught up on some post-Barkley interviews. Sorry to miss Raid the Rib in such a cool location but there was no way for both of us to combine it with Easter, family and dogs. 'Bent, Escondido and Matt should be finishing right about now. :)

Spectacular spring weather for a single track ride at Palgrave. Albion Hills usually opens the last week of April but Palgrave Forest is dry and ready to ride - at least until it rains this weekend. Only 7 weeks until the Mohican 100K mountain bike race and I didn't ride the trainer this winter so it'll have to be a quick build-up.

Bike computer distance and moving time.
