Super hot today!
(No, I don't mean you, Super - although maybe you are.)

I tested my system for carrying ice under my hat in case I do some pacing for Timato at Western States. It's unlikely that we'll be needed but Funderstorm and I will pick up pacer numbers just in case. 'Bent should be able to run Timato's 100-mile pace so let's keep our fingers crossed that 'Bent's stomach enjoys the weather and he's able to keep Timato company out there for a long time.

Speaking of which, there's still time for forecasters to change their minds but they're currently estimating high 38C on Saturday. That's a nice, round 100 degrees Fahrenheit for our American friends. That would be one of the hottest days in the race's 45-year history. So let's all focus on how WRONG the forecasters are.

'Bent and I met Dee for a run from her place at Blue. Up Switchback, over to Loree Forest, down and up Georgian Peaks (which is harder without poles) and the rest of the Loree Loop before retracing our steps. Dee kept up with 'Bent and I did my best to chase after them. Nice to chat with Logie and run into John Yip afterward.

While 'Bent and Tarno galloped around the Pretty River trails together, I headed up from the road to the highest point on the Bruce Trail.

There was a baby raccoon roasting in a sunny spot on the trail up there. Supposedly his Mom will return but I felt sorry for the cute little guy. He was trying so hard to be ignored.

I've only ever been in Pretty River Valley Provincial Park with an orienteering map or else I've followed Bruce Trail blazes. So when I decided to play it by ear and explore some single track, it's not at all surprising that I ended up bushwhacking while watching the Bruce Trail app on my phone, trying - and failing - to get back to the car at the same time as the boys. Beautiful place - I need to get familiar with more trails there.

After the run, 'Bent finally got a chance to try the new patio furniture at Tree Hugger ABC. It's popular with the whole family.

A jaunt around the rolling hills of Palgrave West, aiming for the hottest part of the day to get acclimated for California. Just my luck that it was breezy with moderate temperatures - in other words, perfect running weather. Can't win 'em all, haha!

Western States 100 packing, planning and video watching has been a high priority lately. We're getting excited to crew for Timato next weekend! :)

Couldn't sleep then had to drive to Collingwood at 6:30 a.m. to meet a contractor. Yawn.
