'Bent looked studious while doing his Continuing Dental Education.

Running (Treadmill) 30:00 [2] 3.46 km (8:40 / km)
shoes: Salomon XR Mission

After 16 days without any running and very little hiking on uneven ground, I returned to the treadmill to try another walk/run. This time I used the Barefoot Science inserts that I've been wearing indoors. I don't think the time off has made much difference; it doesn't seem to be an injury that improves with rest. I'll see if easing into running changes things much. If I have to be sore, I may as well be running! I look forward to my sports chiro becoming an essential worker again.

Another Zoom body circuit workout with Mrs. Gally's online class. She keeps our heart rates high!

Mountain Biking (Single Track) 1:14:47 [3] 14.75 km (11.8 kph) +283m

My return to running will have to wait. Today was crisp, cool and sunny, and the Palgrave single track was dry and relatively quiet. It would be a crime to run on a treadmill when I could ride on such a beautiful day! The next few days are forecast to be rainy so I'll get down to the Adventure Basement soon enough. [Used bike computer distance since the watch isn't as good with single track.]

Dentists in France are expected to return to work soon in spite of the worldwide PPE shortage. They are protesting in a very NSFW French way, saying that they feel naked without proper PPE - oh la la! Note that 'Bent will *not* be joining the protest. :D

Note

I spent way too much time today doing background calculations for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy for 'Bent's dental office employees. Then it was time for Zoom beers with Hingo and Luscious to celebrate what would have been our finish line at the Costa Brava Stage Race in Spain today.

Tomorrow I'll try a short treadmill walk/run! Today marks two weeks without running - also no hiking on uneven ground. Sadly, that didn't fix whatever structural problem my foot has but the pain is minor. Last month it seemed that treadmill walk/runs had no effect on the foot so I'll start back with that. 'Bent is cooking so much yummy food that I'd like to run a little!

Sore pecs today from yesterday's Crossfit experiment! My push-up game needs work.

Strength & Mobility (Crossfit) 37:00 intensity: (4:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) + (23:00 @5)

My first ever home Crossfit WOD - with AMRAP-ing and everything! Baloney sent us instructions for "Hero WOD Heidi", a workout named after Constable Heidi Stevenson, who died tragically in the line of duty last week. She was a Mountie for 23 years so we did 23 reps of each exercise for a seemingly interminable 23 minutes. I had to do some scaling, of course - no jumps on my injured foot and I did knee push-ups. It was tough and fun, and I kept Constable Stevenson in my thoughts.

Time includes warm-up and a much-needed outdoor cooldown. I should have done the whole thing outside.

Also fun was the DGL Attackpoint Zoom session that Hammer organized today. Wifi problems knocked a few people off the call but it was great to catch up on news from friends in isolation.

Note

This week Ultra Trail Snowdonia, our trail ultra in Wales, was postponed from June 12-14 to Sept. 18-20.

(a) It's about time, and
(b) Seriously, September?

At this point, most race directors have realized that autumn weekends were already full of races before this happened, and the schedule has become even busier as events have been shuffled back on the calendar. Aside from that, it will be a challenge for big ultras to meet whatever health requirements might exist by this fall.

Since 'Bent and I can't go in September, our other option was a 70% refund. We would rather defer our entries to 2021 but that wasn't permitted since the event is expected to change next year. In the end, we decided to donate our full entry fees to the race director since he is having an even crappier year than we are.

So now the next race on our calendar is RockstAR in late July.
