Cycling 33:01 [2]

SSS with Sasha and Ali before my train home. Explored a new room instead of My Gym. Not quite sold on it yet.

Note

Exam timetable came out. Actually have an exam on the day of the British long. Lol.

Running warm up/down 12:30 [2] 2.7 km (4:38 / km)
shoes: Asics trainers

Strength and conditioning 45:00 [1]

Much easier session. A lot of focus on posture and mobility. Found out I have very tight shoulders which could potentially be the root cause of my Chickenitis...

Running warm up/down 9:05 [2] 1.61 km (5:39 / km)
shoes: New Balance trainers

Up down to the start.

Orienteering 10:57 [4] 2.19 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: New Balance trainers

Mass started a sprint with Dan, Tim and Callum around central Edinburgh from a training exercise a while ago that no one did as it wasn't printed on the map. Got dropped very early on as I was hesitant to the first but then ran my own 'race' and was the only one to actually go to the right place for 5 so a minor victory I think. Felt in control pretty well just I was running no where near as fast as the others.

Running warm up/down 3:22 [2] 0.61 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: New Balance trainers

Back to the start of the corridor.

Orienteering 16:23 [3] 3.15 km (5:12 / km)
shoes: New Balance trainers

Sprint corridor in and around the mile. Did it in reverse as we had done it before but a while ago. Really enjoy this exercise and think I was a lot better than last time just by staying in contact with the map a lot more and losing out on a bit of pace.(Had a look, last time we did it was the 14th Jan and I took 19.40. Little bit better this time I think plus last time it was net downhill). Was fun :)

Running warm up/down 7:14 [2] 1.31 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: New Balance trainers

Down up to my flat.

Running tempo 56:00 [4] 13.0 km (4:18 / km)
shoes: Asics trainers

CHIMP (Cosmo Hunger Inducing Meadows Progression). Slowly getting faster every km around the small meadows lap. Kilometer times: 5.03, 4.54, 41, 34, 27, 19, 16, 11, 03, 02, 3.48, 53, 49. The third last effort I misjudged the pace and as a result went too fast meaning I couldn't progress any faster. Absolutely dead at the end. And hungry.

Running warm up/down 11:40 [2] 2.13 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: Asics trainers

Down around another lap of the meadows. Just can't get enough of it.

Note
(rest day)

Complete rest day. Legs still a bit sore just walking to KB and with two pretty big/hard/long races at the weekend, an easier week is fine. Maybe. I don't really know what I'm talking about tbh.

Running 37:29 [3] 7.04 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: Asics trainers

Recovery loop round the crags with Dan and Tam before gym and then back home afterwards.

Strength and conditioning 1:00:00 [1]

Endless amounts of hurdle mobility, disc mobility with the damn OH squats that I can get down to about a 10 degree knee bend with followed by med-ball slams, push-down abs and plank.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Up. Didn't Garmin it so a guess.

Orienteering race (BUCs Relay) 31:58 [4] 5.07 km (6:18 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Did alright again. Physically didn't feel great for the first half. Quite an effort for pretty much any gradient and it wasn't helped by the very slippy ground although I don't think I was the only one with this issue. Several times I didn't navigate properly and ended up running to several gaffles before mine (1, 2, 12) maybe losing 30 seconds on each of them. Not ideal but through spectator saw Nathan and Ali just up the hill ahead and was able to finish strongly and able to just catch Ali so finished as second EUOC team, 2 seconds behind Nathan. Team finished 5th after good runs from Mark and Tam. Sasha crushed it, taking a minute 30 of everyone to catch Willy and win it for EUOC! Personal analysis is that I'm not especially good at running with other people and am waaay to easily distracted by them as was shown by both today and a little bit yesterday with Will. Never really liked first leg for this reason.

Running warm up/down 13:52 [2] 2.27 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Up.

Orienteering race (BUCs Individual) 1:06:50 [4] 12.15 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Started off well, maybe missing 2 by 15 seconds or so by drifting too far right. Long leg to 6 I decided to go straight along which turned out to not be a great route mainly due to the conditions. Most of the paths reminded me of BUCs XC and I spent most of the leg slipping all over the place. Got stuck in the steep earth bank bit in the middle of the leg due to it being neck deep brambles. Lost another 30 seconds in the circle by not being accurate enough with my compass. Total lost was 3 minutes to Conor who just smashed it round the road. Caught by Will here too and so started to run with him. 7 was weird came out way too high up the re-entrant and seemed to have to run along way down it to the flag. All my effort through to 12 was spent desperately hanging onto Will. He'd dropped me by enough that I couldn't see him out of 12 and poor direction out the control led to me losing time on 13 and being fully dropped. Caught him again at 15 when he messed up. Good through to 21 where I guess tiredness got to me and I got quite confused near the circle and lost another half a minute stupidly. Overall ~5 minutes lost. Not displeased with this but not happy either. Feel like this could have been a very good run with my running speed being OK but my nav just wasn't good enough. I'm never going to be the quickest runner in the field so I feel like to perform well I have to be making no more than 2 minutes worth of errors total and at the moment this kind of run with around 5 ish minutes worth of mistakes is about average for me.
