Note

Cool blog from 'bent rider Jason Perez. He crushed the 200 mile Central Coast Double Century record so hard that the aid stations and finish line weren't even set up yet. 14,000 feet of climbing too.

I like his description of coming into an aid station racing hard in front, and bewildered volunteers suggest he walk around to the back to find lunch, when all he needs is a very quick water refill.

Running 50:00 [1]

(70 min) Easy hike/ jog with BZdog on the "take it easy" list.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Ride in with AD.
Rushed morning with physio appt.

Note- physio thinks I'm making progress, greenlight for hiking hills with poles, but still supposed to keep the running down. No downhill blasting.

Ride back just as it got dark. AD's first night ride home, and he was very good on his harness and bikejoring setup. We saw 3 sets of deer.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Back to boot camp. Taking it easy on some exercises, skipped one, but mostly went fine.

Cycling 52:00 [2]

Easy ride with the big boy. Sunny and frosty on the way in, torrential downpour home- arrived completely soaked through.

The big guy's left leg is sore, so I'll have to drive him tomorrow.

Storm The Trent Warsaw

Nasty weather forecast- rain and cold. Going in injured and undertrained the plan was to cruise the day.
We started on boats- Storm had shortened the paddle and lengthened the first trek a bit. I got out front off the start, but realized I was pushing too hard and dialed it back. DD went like a torpedo, and Bash passed me too. I would have had to redline to reel them in.

Off to the bikes for a short ride to the first trek at Warsaw Caves. I was able to jog along, but no putting the hammer down. I leapfrogged the Ripkin AR boys here quite a bit. Took the road run back to the bikes which was faster, and I was glad I was in running shoes.

Saw DD, Ripkin and Wokitokis at the transition to bikes. The Queens Polecats team had already left. I passed Ripkin but other than that never saw a soul on the marked bike route or the Elite section to the next trek. The dirt roads were getting ugly in the pouring rain, but I enjoyed cruising along on the bike. At the t/a there were a lot more bikes than I expected- I had gone South on the marked route out of CP2 but it turns out you could go North and rejoin on a shorter route with less climb.

Second trek was more of a shuffle as my leg was sore. I stayed in bike shoes and helmet and sling pack to save TA time. DD and Wokitokis had made up big time.
I passed Pullin Foot in the transition to bike. At the final trail run Chad was just leaving as I arrived. This one was a jog/hike for me, then back on the bikes. I caught Queens and we rode a paceline. Their bad-@ss female was in front, and I took pulls on the flats but got complaints I was hard to draft.

Next up was a classic AR ATV trail. I passed Queens on the rocky bits and got Long Sault on the mud, but Queens rode away from me in the slimy muck and deep sludge pits. My gears and legs complained on the last few big hills, but the cruise in was nice.

DD crushed it in under 6 hrs. Wokitokis Chad and Meredythe were a solid second. Queens finished 5 min ahead of me, and Long Sault about 5 min behind, so I was 4th and first old guy.

The mighty Bash was first female.

Storm ran a precision race despite nasty conditions.

I was pleased to be able to cruise well on the bike despite underperforming on the run and a lack of long training. Leg still gave me trouble but no cramping or stomach issues this race.
