Great privilege to have the top dog in my age group ride shotgun up to MA and back with me to Baldwin Hill meet. Charlie and I both did the Green course.

The forest was laden with dry sticks on the ground that made the trek very arduous. I was catching toe stubbers at least every 10m. Dry branches were clawing at my arms, hands, legs and shoes constantly even in what might be called open woods. Despite walking the whole way (running was out of the question for me) I nearly face planted six times, but hands spared me from drilling my nose into the ground. The course seemed long and I was often confused among small contoured ridges and contours. I used my magnifying glass a lot. I often came upon wet spots that were not on the map. Despite efforts to take care with compass headings, several times I had to circle the control area in order to find it.

My GPS track tells me that I was often more on course than I thought as I approached each control.

But It's always rewarding to discuss experiences while driving home with the top dog,
