Conditions were great today and the course was flat and fast. I was feeling well rested and looking forward to a good run and my first ever 5 mile race.
I worked really hard right from the gun and got a bit carried away at the start. I wasn't wearing a watch but went through the first mile with the Clitherbot who ran an astonishing 26.53.
By the second mile I was in the red and it took tremendous effort to keep putting in surges every time somebody went past me as I couldn't keep to any rhythm. It was comparable to Trafford 10 km back in 2011.
My goal today was to run under 30 minutes, as I figured 5 miles of running 5 something would be descent. I was really chuffed with my time and now have a benchmark to run close to 34 in Trafford which should put me in a position of strength to PB on the track in the summer.
I feel like there are a lot of stones to turn over but I'm keen to do one thing at a time and stay injury free.
