Running 17:01 [3] 2.46 mi (6:55 / mi)
28 Days injured
So after the tightness that I felt on Monday evening, I decided to give a run another go today.
Prior to going out the door and since Monday I have had absolutely no pain on walking, single leg calf raises or multiple leg hops. I've waked over 10,000 steps between the wards at work, ran up and down stairs and to cardiac arrests - no pain!
Today I was fine for around 10-12 minutes then I could start to feel the tightness building up. At around 17 minutes it was so much that it stopped me from running, as if my calf had been injected with cement. Then walking back and down to the coffee shop I had some pain on walking. Over the last few hours this has gone and again I have no pain on any of these tests but can't run for a prolonged period of time before my calf tightens up. There is absolutely no way that when it tightens up in such a way and I feel this 'pressure' that I could continue running.
I'm not feeling to down and depressed though, I've been through that stage. I'm actually quite enjoying the turbo, it gives my lots of time to dream about running sub 4 this summer.
So I'm certainly no sports doctor and admit I have absolutely no idea as to the cause of this injury.
Andrew Baddeley published a nice article on englandathletics yesterday, he said regarding injury...' But more importantly I lost my absolute favourite thing about running, the thing that gives me energy, purpose, satisfaction, pleasure and motivation – I lost the time spent with other runners, with my training partners and coach. I lost the support that comes from talking on runs, talking about the banalities of everyday life, but also talking about how today was a great day, or more importantly how today seemed like a pretty bad day.'
