Ticky-Tack/MValley/down Montreaux. I got on the bike this morning intending on riding hard up a few climbs. I quickly realized how difficult it is to get psyched to ride really hard (Strava hard:) without some external motivation, such as the HOWC group ride and/or riding with Adam M, Tobias H, or Tim W. When you want to go hard, it's good to be around people who ride hard every time they go on a ride. I have to say I have even more respect for the pros who ride up the big climbs of the TDF and Vuleta in the afternoon heat at racing speeds. I like riding in hot weather, but come on, hammering up climbs? A second and two third overall on S.

Grand Ridge/Duthie/High Point. After two straight DOB's I felt great and I was in the mood to ride hard. Despite that, I dialed it back after a pretty solid first part of the ride. I need to save some energy for riding many straight days in the glorious hot weather. My times don't reflect it, but I rode well at Duthie. I had to slow to get by a lot of riders, many of them kids. I had no problems slowing down to deliver words of encouragement to the young people. After all, I was jealous. I wish I had been riding MTB when I was that age! GR was not busy at all, but I did come upon two equestrians. I'm hoping today is the last day I will use fenders until sometime in October.

Grand Ridge/Duthie/High Point. Conditions were nigh on perfect, and I rode very well today. I saw the largest group of riders I've ever seen at GR.When I got to High Point I spotted the "REI Adventures Get Outside" van. Nice to see a MTB class at GR, and smart to have it on a weekday.

Grand Ridge/Duthie MTB Little slippery today. There was enough moisture on the north side of GR and at Duthie to generate a little mud and make the rounded rocks slick. In this part of the world, that's all of the rocks. Going easier was a good thing as I need to save some energy for the Chelan Century this Saturday.

Grand Ridge/Duthie Super Bonk. I started off feeling a little more tired than I should after yesterday's not real long or hard road ride. I stopped at Duthie to make a long phone call. When I started riding again, I had no energy at all and felt like I was riding in a daze. Perhaps tomorrow I will feel great after my body super compensates after today's super bonk. That was one of the reasons Floyd Landis put forth to explain his miraculous day that "won" him the 2006 Tour de France. Well that, as well as the two beers and a little Jack Daniels he drank after his super bonk.

Grand Ridge/Duthie/High Point MTB B+ game 6/14/2013. I went pretty hard up the Main (west) GR Trail (RPE 9-9.5) for a PR and I am pretty sure good enough to reclaim a lost KOM . Another bizarre GPS track and of course the segment doesn't show because my GPS thinks I am in a different county. I'm glad that another Edge is on its way to me-hopefully it works better.

GR/D MTB Most excelllent! Today was one of the best days I have had on the MTB. I felt MUCH better than yesterday (thank you caffeine). I thought I was going to go the whole ride without seeing a soul on the trails. Late in the ride I came across a pretty girl MTBer, and shortly thereafter another one trail running. My PR's descending and then climbing the north side of GR were not detected by Strava due to yet another goofy GPS track. I'm getting frustrated with my (third) Edge 500.

Tiger MTB Bailout. I did one hard effort on the fire road, and then started up Preston. I was really tired. Preston is a climb that requires very good focus and technique, and I didn't have the energy for either. Guess that pissed me off. 13 Strava cups: two new KOM's, lowered my time on an existing one, now 4th on GR climb west, #2 on Duthie Moving On Circuit, $4 on Boot Camp Complete Lap, and 5th on Issaquah HS DH.

GR/D MTB par exellence. I was really on it over to and around Duthie. That's about as good as I can ride MTB at this stage of the game. Unfortunately, Strava didn't pick up all of the segments, and there were errors on others-still having Edge issues. I decided to cool my jets on the return trip, and it was a good thing as I became distracted by contract close out issues with our general contractor, as well as by thoughts of Bend.
