Olallie Change Creek: Strong September Sign-off. I wound up with 70,394' of climbing in September. Since last Sunday, I have accumulated 26,627' of MTB climbing during three Olallie rides and two at Raging River. One never knows if the rainy season will start in early October, or not until November. Might as well rack up some riding while the trails are perfect.

Raging River: "Man, you are flying" is a relative thing. When I encountered two riders on my return trip that I had already passed on the climb, one of them exclaimed, "Man, you are flying." I thanked him for the compliment, but after having climbed 21,000' on the MTB WTD, including 6400' yesterday at Olallie, I knew that I was definitely not airborne. In fact, I was 11 minutes (not seconds) off of my PR for the full climb. The riders were at most half my age, so I guess my priorities are different than theirs!

Olallie Ridge: My 2018 racing season is over and I had better results than Chris Froome. CF failed to achieve his only objective of winning the TDF. I met my only goal of beating the 2017 version of me on the ten mile Olallie and Raging River climbs, and I did it multiple times. CF had to beat a few other fast guys. I was only racing myself but I was 1 for 1 vs. his 0 for 1 :)

Raging River-Snoqualmie Falls-Fall City-Preston-Issaquah: Drilling Down to Type P fun, and Smelling the Roses. I'm employing an overused contemporary office-speak term to describe focusing on only pure fun. PR season is over for me in 2018-no more self inflicted pressure to go fast. I noticed a great "new" Mt. Baker view. I've ridden RR a zillion times, but the view was new to me because it was the first time I was going slow enough downhill to catch it.

Olallie Climbing the Office Ladder. My turnaround point was the "Phone Booth." Phones remind me of work, but the 10 mile climb to the booth was all fun. I had yet another reminder that North Bend/Olallie makes its own weather. Issaquah was sunny and warm, but North Bend was socked in by thick clouds, which I rode through and above as I climbed up Olallie. It actually drizzled a bit as I drove up to Rattlesnake Lake, and it was chilly on the trail.

Olallie Backcountry Summit: Climbing by Bike. I wound up on the top of a mountain with a sheer precipice. The final section was a hike-a-bike scramble with a big drop. It was a great adventure! The photos don't do the views justice at all. Olallie just gets better and better. I didn't see a soul for the first 19 miles of my ride.

Raging River-Snoqualmie Falls-Fall City-Preston-Issaquah: MTB-Highway-Backroads-Gravel-Bike Path Odyssey. Killing two birds with one stone was a lot of fun. I started with a hard MTB ride (although I didn't ride very hard) and finished with an easy and scenic road ride. Thanks to my great wife Tracy for dropping me off at RR this morning at 7 AM.

Grand Ridge: Downgrade to upgrade 500>510>820=130 finally the Garmin math adds up. Higher number=more complexity/slower/x reliable/screw upped data Lower number=it works! The 130 is by a wide margin the best Garmin GPS I have used.

Grand Ridge: Mother Nature does a Houdini act. After months with barely a trace of rain, yesterday ended ten straight days with precipitation totaling over 3." The trails were barely damp, and even the creeks were dry. Barely a speck of dirt found its way to both the bike and me. Nice!

Olallie-Change Creek: Doctor Dirt Rx has been filled. I hope that there isn't a person with that name in real life, but there is probably a Strava username. Dr. Dirt prescribed moisture to remedy the bone dry trails, and 2.25" over a week resulted in Hero Dirt at Olallie.

Grand Ridge RT-HP-PP: The bell had a better day than I did. My riding was not so hot, but my Timber Bell sure was a hit. I heard "I love the bell," three times, one "Your bell is very thoughtful," and a "The bell is very much appreciated." All accolades came from hiker groups, the people I most want to keep happy. No speed sensor-actual mileage about 29.

Olallie-Change Peak Double Dip. Olallie-Change Peak Double Dip. Not double dip as back to back on the same day, which would be truly epic. But I did this hard route on Friday. While I didn't have PR energy, I actually felt better today, and I rode longer, to the base of the final Mt. WA hike-a-bike. I faded a bit on the ten mile climb, but that's hard to avoid on the best of days!

Olallie Jolly-Change Peak 500k day: Up, up, and away we go! Actually, I went over 500,000' of climbing YTD on Tuesday's Raging River ride, but I just noticed it today. I'm now at 507,590', and at this pace will wind up with around 750k in 2018. This year makes twelve in a row where I have climbed at least 500,000', with a high of 832,000' in 2015. My new Garmin lost satellite reception and therefore I don't show on the DH segments. That's unfortunate, because I was motoring pretty good.

Timber Bell bear(s) tested on a local little loop. The bell I have on the MTB is a "people" bell, since I use it to alert hikers and other riders. Today the bell gave two healthy looking good-sized cubs a very early warning on the gravel road west of Tradition Lake near High Point. Momma bear must have been nearby in the brush off the road. The smoky skies are back.

Raging River-I90-Home: Nailed it!!! My rear tire followed by a MacGyver Maneuver, that is. Tracy dropped me off at Raging River early in the morning. Riding home involves 4.5 miles on I-90. That's never been a bother until today, when I picked up a nail that went into the tire tread and popped an inch out of the sidewall. At least I was able to make it off of I-90 to Preston, where I was able to (temporarily) repair the sidewall and install a tube. I'll be mounting a new tire this afternoon.

Issy-Preston-Snoqualmie trails+ Hatchery with Tracy. There are only a few chinook in the stream, and that doesn't bode well for the rest of the salmon spawning season. Erratic speed sensor: actual mileage 18.7/RT 1:37/1165'

Medina-Kirkland-Redmond: EZPZ willpower. I felt better than I expected to after Friday's hard ride. It's been awhile since I've been on the road bike, but I resisted the temptation to ride harder than I planned to. It was good to see Jeff and Tricia, along with a jillion other cyclists.

Squak Mountain back yard hike-blackberry picking finale? Not because I am tired of picking blackberries (I find it kind of relaxing), and certainly not because I am tired of eating them. It's the end of another prolific season. Luckily we have a few pounds in the freezer to be enjoyed at a later time.
