GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Fasting, but not fast. I decided to ride just a few hours after a medical procedure requiring fasting. It was weird anyway riding late in the afternoon, and I had pretty low energy.

Grand Ridge OAB Fifty Shades of Green. The recent rains and warm temps have made the forests very happy. Fast trails are more fun, but going slow has some advantages, such as noticing things that are overlooked when focused on going fast.

Grand Ridge out and back Type 1A fun: 1A is an activity that is fun, but not as fun as the same thing done under different circumstances. Riding MTB on wet and slow trails is still fun, just not as fun as with fast and dry conditions. After three straight DOB's, I should have been motivated to ride hard, but it's hard to get pumped up when you go slow no matter how you ride.

GR/Duthie+/HPoint/PPoint 2X/FSM Let it rain tonight...But not tomorrow, so that my friends can enjoy their road ride. Despite being tired from my fifth hard ride in a row, I picked my spots and rode very well overall. Riding the Tomcat motivates me to do that. It's a DOB for me tomorrow.

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Drought to Deluge=Summer to Winter. At least for trail conditions. The trails were the wettest and slowest rolling they have been this winter, but still in pretty good shape compared to past years. Yesterday evening I had a RHR of 36, which is a new low.

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint X Dustbunnies. Yesterday we had our first rain of March, which resulted in a few mud puddles today. More importantly, the moisture took care of the trail summer dust which has arrived early this year.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle/HPoint/PPoint I didn't have to call in sick this morning...But judging on how busy the trails were for a Tuesday, a lot of people picked up the phone. Come to think of it, I only saw solo riders today, a sure sign of a last minute decision to hit the trails while they are in summer condition.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Recon How have I managed to ride all of these years? While I was eating my sandwich at Soaring Eagle, I was approached by a man who wanted to ask me some questions about getting a (road) bike. Most importantly, where does one store their iPhone? I guess his pocket is out of the question, since he must need to see it at all times. Next, how does one best listen to music while riding? Last but not least, will he need anything besides a bike? I guess he didn't notice that he was talking to a rider wearing a helmet, gloves, bike shoes, jersey and shorts.

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Summer fun. The trails are rolling very well, and that motivated me to ride very well. I'm tired, but I picked my spots and did some focused good riding.

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint May Day. A temperature in the high 50's is only a few degrees above normal for this time of the year, but in combination with warm sun, those few degrees can make a difference. While it's nice to wear just shorts and a short sleeve jersey, even better is that the trails are in fantastic shape. It's nice to come home from a ride with my bike and kit almost spotless.

Capitol Forest MTB Olympia A mixed bag...Some good riding, some monotonous riding on trails through old clear cuts, and a near disaster at the end of the ride. I was on a loop trip, trail signage was often inaccurate when it was there at all, and I had trouble orienteering myself out of the forest. Numbers-wise, this is the hardest MTB ride I have done, but it didn't really feel that way. There was a ton of climbing, but not much of it was steep. The trails were muddy and slow rolling a lot of the time, resulting in my lowest ever average ride speed.
