Grand Ridge/HPoint/PPoint Riding (almost) always is the priority. Last night I made a list of things I "had" to get done today, since I was 99% sure it would be a DOB based on the weather forecast. Temps in the mid-60's and no rain resulted in a quick shift of strategy. High wind sounded great blowing through the trees in the forest, but it was a little spooky listening for loud cracking sounds as I rode.

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Deer tag. I came around a corner of the trail and was almost face to face with two deer. They stood their ground, and not with a frozen pose. They seemed to have more of a curious attitude. I slowed a bit, and the deer grudgingly turned around and trotted ahead of me for about 50'...at my pace. As I rode by, one of the deer paused for a last look as she left the trail. I hope that these deer don't relocate to south Tiger Mountain before hunting season opens!

Grand Ridge/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Fast, speed, Fartlek? No comprende. Winter MTB riding with slow and slippery conditions means fun, fitness, and trail time. PR's and KOM's? Fuggedaboutit!

PPoint/HPoint/Grand Ridge/Duthie 20mm+5mm=Equals about an inch, or the amount that cost a player the US Open at Chambers Bay this year. A 20mm wider bar combined with a 5mm saddle move changed my static position a little, but had a huge effect on my center of gravity and weight distribution on the bike. Now my winter bike handles and descends a lot more like my prime time bike.

Grand Ridge/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X Inverted Over and Under. On yesterday morning's team road ride I was underdressed. Just when I got to the trailhead this morning, the wind picked up and blew in a warm bubble of air. By the time I got to the top of GR, the temp had gone up 10 degrees, and stayed at 60 or above for the rest of the ride. Being overdressed is a good problem to have at this time of the year.

Meet the High Performance Cycling Team Ride "Not more than seven days a week". The question was "How often do you ride?" Of course, he was asking about the team...I left the ride early, as I was cold! I was underdressed (I'll have to get some winter team kit), as it was 47 when I left the house and 49 when I got home.

MTB 3:52:00 [4] 38.3 mi (9.9 mph) +4695ft

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X Motivation from the ground floor up. The dirt was so good at Soaring Eagle that I found the motivation to ride better than I deserved to ride today. I went back to being tired up and over Grand Ridge on the way home.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X Bonus Month. October is usually a transition month between September's perfect weather and November's rain. This year October's fantastic weather has just been a continuation of September. And sun and 60's in the forecast for the next week...

Maple Valley-Soos Creek-Renton-Coulon-May Valley Tommy Timing. I planned it so that I was in the MON mid-day during early release Wednesday, and there wasn't a school bus in sight. By the time I got back to more populated areas, the soccer mom battalion of Suburbans was long gone from the roads. May Valley in mid-afternoon was quieter than a Sunday morning.

MTB 3:02:00 [3] 26.7 mi (8.8 mph) +3261ft
ahr:108 max:143 shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR/Duthie/HPoint/PPoint Lack of motivation. More likely, lack of confidence, as I am always psyched to ride. In any case, I had trouble focusing and didn't ride well today. I need to make the transition to wet trail conditions. It was a little muddy, but the real issue is all of the wet leaves covering up slippery roots and rocks. It's more mental and about attitude adjustment than anything else.

Squak Mountain west to east traverse up into the cloud. I started at the Rt. 900 trailhead, went through a cloud as I crossed over the top of Squak, and then descended to the northeast to go home. It never rained, but the trees continually dropped moisture, which sounded nice. 4.7m/1824,/2:08

High Point-Preston MTB with Tracy, and a lifetime first for her. For the first time ever, Tracy started a bike ride when it was raining, and she had fun!

Redmond-Kirkland-Medina-Newcastle-Maple Valley Exercising a weather call option. After I started riding, the weather outlook improved, so I doubled my planned ride distance. I was on the #1 bike, and you never know how many more beautiful days we will have this year.

MTB 3:51:00 [4] 37.1 mi (9.6 mph) +3990ft

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X Dirty Dozen. Actually, not very dirty at all, as the trails were in good shape. I only did three MTB rides this week, but they were all solid rides. Each ride totaled almost spot on 4000' of climbing. 3x4k=12k.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Looked like it beat school. There was a group of 25 kids from a Kirkland School doing volunteer trail work at Soaring Eagle. Judging by the friendly smiles and greetings accompanied by a very upbeat attitude, I'd say that they were enjoying themselves.

MTB 3:51:00 [3] 37.0 mi (9.6 mph) +3990ft
shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Follow the yellow leaf road. Actually yellow-orange, due to a combination of big Maple leaves and cedar tree needles. The wind and rain from Saturday's storm really brought down the leaves, but Sunday's warmth, sun, and breezes went a long way toward drying the trails. Conditions were good, even if it was a bit difficult to actually see the trail.

Redmond-Kirkland-Medina Reunion with an old (in bike years) friend. Well, 2009, which is kind of old for me in terms of keeping a bike. I have only ridden my custom steel bike three times in 2015, and not at all since February. As usual, I had forgotten just how good the bike feels and how enjoyable it is to ride. Fun game of mirror tag tease today with a racer dude.

Squak-Sycamore-Park Point-Creekside Trail Confirmation once again...That I love the rain! I saw about a dozen Chinook salmon swimming upstream of the hatchery in Issaquah Creek near the house. Natural habitat extends another ten miles to the start of the creek on Tiger Mountain. 4.4m/733'

MTB 3:23:00 [3] 31.8 mi (9.4 mph) +3474ft

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Same trails, but more scenic. I was tired and not concentrating well today. The rocks and roots were slick with wet leaves and a bit of mud. I decided to take it easy. It's amazing what you notice when you slow down enough to have a look around.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X Dodge Ball. As in dodging piles of balls of horse turds at Soaring Eagle. A major accomplishment of today's ride was missing all of the poop deposited over the weekend. Lucky for me, at least I have the flexibility to avoid riding the trails when the horses are actually there.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle 2X "Wasted" cloudy day. Well, not really, as riding MTB under overcast skies is great, because the light is the most consistent on trails in the deep forest. But today was my 7th riding day in a row, with the last 5 on the MTB. Despite not having the mental or physical energy to go at it and take advantage of the light, I rode well during the hardest and longest ride of the week. No problem, as there are lots of cloudy days on the horizon.

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle. Tired from my sixth riding day in a row. I rode well, but kind of slow.
