Hiking 2:02:00 [2] 6.1 mi (3.0 mph) +2182ft
ahr:114 max:146

Squak Summit Central Peak Outdoor Stairmaster...Thanks to living on Squak Mountain, I can skip going to the gym to use the Stairmaster for a Z2 workout. I passed four or five groups totaling 8 hikers going up the trail, and almost caught up to a trail runner right before the top.

Z2 with 2x(3x2m) PI 3m RBI 8m RBS 9 1/2 weeks...At least I'm in single digits until I can get back on my bikes and do some real riding.

Z2 with 2x(3x2m) PI 3m RBI 8m RBS It ain't over till it's over, at least when only pride is involved...I watched the first three sets of Djokovic vs. Federer while riding the trainer and doing shoulder PT. It's not like either needs the money for the win, but for the first two sets Djokovic made Federer look like the local tennis club amateur champion. Federer stormed back to take the third set, and I'll watch the finish during the next shoulder rehab session. My heart is with Federer, but my money would be on Djokovic.

Hiking 2:26:00 [2] 7.1 mi (2.9 mph) +2211ft
ahr:105 max:140

Squak Mountain Sunset-Central Summit. Low Z2 for the hour climb walking about as fast as I could in my sling from DT Issaquah to the top of Squak. I am now a triple KOM on the Squak Central Summit trail.

Trainer 1:01:00 [4] 19.7 mi (19.4 mph)

Z2 with 3x10m SS Magic trainer elixir...Fairly loud music in the headphones+muted cable scrolling of the Golf Channel for shoulder rehab motivation+three business channels for the financial graphics=maximum distraction

Walking 1:08:00 [1] 4.1 mi (3.6 mph) +331ft
(rest day)

Gilman-DT Issaquah-PPoint-Sycamore The only upside to shoulder surgery other than a better shoulder...For the next ten weeks, I'll be rehabbing my shoulder and I won't be riding my bike 15-20 hours a week, so I now have a lot more time and energy to walk and hike. Another advantage of forced rest is being able to rehab my other shoulder and address elbow epicondylitis issues, so hopefully there won't be any more surgery. Hitched a ride with Tracy and started my walk at Gold's Gym.

Hiking 2:45:00 [2] 7.7 mi (2.8 mph) +2532ft

Squak Central Peak Summit Z2 trainer alternative-outdoors!!! Starting in DT Issaquah, it's 3.2m of continuous uphill and 2000' of climbing to the summit of Squak. Walking as fast as I could with my arm in a sling, my HR stayed in low Z2 for the just under an hour it took me. I'll be using the trainer for intervals only, not for boring endurance riding.

Trainer 1:00:00 [4] 19.0 mi (19.0 mph)
ahr:133 max:153 shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Z2 with 3x8m SS Indoors is not as bad as I remembered...Of course, it has only been eight days, but I have ridden five times. Not having outdoor riding as an option makes the trainer a lot more tolerable.

Indoors Z2 3x8m SS with Abu Dhabi Golf. Watching Rory Mcilroy swing the club and light it up is a great reminder as to why I had surgery on a shoulder that doesn't bother me when I ride bikes.

Hiking 48:00 [2] 2.6 mi (3.2 mph) +636ft

Squak-Sycamore trail time. Trail time is always good, even when I can't ride the mountain bike.

Trainer 48:00 [3] 14.3 mi (17.9 mph)

PPointe/HPoint/Grand Ridge Forced Hiatus...Left shoulder surgery tomorrow. First ride of 2016 during which I did not catch and pass anyone. I only saw one other rider and they were going the opposite direction.

Redmond/Kirkland/Medina/Newcastle Thank you Seahawks, for making the playoffs...A morning TV spot for the game resulted in even less Sunday traffic than usual. That made a ride on a sunny, mild, deep blue sky day even more pleasurable. We're hoping the game is so one-sided (in the right direction) that we can fast forward through a lot of the DVR recording. First ACE ride since 10-24-15, likely the only time this winter I will wear my Assos 851 jacket and bib tights.

MTB 2:40:00 [3] 24.0 mi (9.0 mph) +2890ft
weight:151.6lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR/Duthie A rare day when having to drive to the trailhead would have been an advantage. I wanted to beat the Saturday crowd with an early start when it was still chilly, but the 1.5m of pavement riding to get to the TH would have been too icy. Better to go later and ride with plenty of company than to take a fall. An inversion resulted in pleasant temps up higher on the trail.

MTB 3:37:00 [4] 33.7 mi (9.3 mph) +3510ft
weight:150.6lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle/HPoint/PPointe Don't pass it on...Based on how deserted the trails were, maybe nobody is aware of just how good trail conditions are. I expect that will change when I ride on crowded trails on Saturday. I'd be happy with today's trail conditions year-round. Trails roll a lot faster in the summer, but then one must contend with loose marble-sized rocks in almost every corner.

MTB 2:35:00 [4] 23.7 mi (9.2 mph) +3205ft
shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge/Duthie Micro microclimate vortex. Last night's windstorm at the house was the worst since we have lived in Issaquah. After a two hour cleanup this morning, Tracy went for a run and I headed for the trails. I expected to find 5-10+ big trees down, but there was barely a sign that even a mild zephyr had hit GR and Duthie, and there was zero evidence of wind in downtown Issaquah either. Odd that the s*@% hit the fan right in our neighborhood. Also odd but pleasant was riding with snow flurries the entire ride. Garmin froze 2x: actual mileage 23.7/3205' climbing

MTB 3:30:00 [3] 31.1 mi (8.9 mph) +3356ft
shoes: Comp MTB 2011

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Two horses leave a path of destruction. OK, I exaggerate, but even on frosty-firm trails two horses at GR did more damage than 2000 mountain bikes. Not to mention the prodigious amount of poop I will have to keep my eye out for who knows how long. All it took to get the bike dirty was a short section of "peanut butter mud at SE. At least it wasn't horsey peanut butter.

MTB 3:20:00 [4] 30.5 mi (9.1 mph) +3402ft
shoes: Comp MTB 2011

GR/Duthie/Soaring Eagle Letting the Ferrari out of its cage. Cold nights result in frosty but dry trails, perfect for mid-winter deployment of the summer prime-time bike. Busy trails. SE was a little tricky with some thick frost, lots of "resolution" walkers with loose dogs, and even a few horses. Passed 22 riders.
