Newcastle-Covington-Black Diamond-Maple Valley Polar opposites. Today's longish road ride was quite a contrast to yesterday's shortish MTB ride. Yesterday I did a six mile climb at a hard pace. Today I had more total climbing, but I went a lot easier. Today's 75 degrees and smoke free blue skies sure beats the mid 80's to 90's we've been stuck with for weeks. The smoke from B.C. forest fires has finally cleared.

Olallie first time What could be better than riding downhill for six miles on a brand new trail? Climbing for six miles on a brand new trail! Seven top five's on the climb, including a KOM on the OAB.

Mercer Island Cycling is a lot more fun when you aren't tired every ride. I went through an odd patch health-wise over the winter and spring, but I feel fantastic now. It's nice to have the mental and physical energy to ride hard when you want to. Riding hard wasn't my goal today, but I felt surprisingly good following hard MTB rides the last two days.

Grand Ridge-Duthie-Soaring Eagle A Presidential level of entitlement. As I slowly approached a large family at GR, I said thank you as the father encouraged everyone to move to the side and let me pass. One kid didn't quite get it, and the father gave him a gentle little tug. The kid immediately started wailing, and it was intensifying as I rode off. I'm guessing that this is what Agent Orange must have been like as I child, because it seems like he still acts this way as an adult.

Raging River Pretty good for my demographic group but not for an "old guy" As in, I refuse to ever let my age be an excuse. Most of the time I lead my Strava age group by a wide margin, if there is even anybody in that group riding MTB! It's the overall that matters.
