Grand Ridge RT With another birthday coming up, it's time to stop thinking like a newborn. Newborn bike, that is. After almost an inch of rain overnight, I would have normally ridden MAC, my designated winter mud bike. But the Tomcat was already a bit dirty from yesterday's ride, so I rode it. The Tomcat is almost four years old, and is still in "like new" condition, mechanically and cosmetically. I typically avoid using it on muddy trails. It's still my baby, but with over 1100 hours of use, it's not a newborn. The upside was that I only had one bike to clean after the ride.

HP-Grand Ridge RT-HP Perfect symbiotic relationship. There was a crew of at least forty Washington Trail Association volunteers doing major revamping of the middle trail on the south side of Grand Ridge. This is the least used trail (they told me I was the only person they had seen all day), but the improvements may change that. Runners and hikers are really going to like the trail work. We are so fortunate to have the Cascades and foothills close to Seattle for wonderful recreation opportunities, and we are equally fortunate to have WTA and King County Parks to build and maintain fantastic trails. One doesn't work without the other.

Grand Ridge-Duthie-Soaring Eagle Riding on a perfect summer day is more fun. But not by a whole heck of a lot, at least on the mountain bike. It's a different story on the road bike, when I'd happily trade today's unseasonably chilly mid-40's and deep blue skies for one of those seemingly endless 75-80 degree PNW summer days. But the trails are deserted during the week this time of the year, and trail conditions are actually better than in the summer. Love it!

Grand Ridge-Duthie Ghost Group Ride, not that I was alone. I've led well over 300 group road rides, but today I led my first mountain bike ride...except nobody showed up. That's OK, as it was the first time I listed the ride on the Cascade Bicycle Club Rides page. I had plenty of company anyway, as I caught and passed 31 riders.
