MTB 2:08:00 [3] 22.4 mi (10.5 mph) +2395ft
ahr:124 max:150 shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge-Duthie: The high body count made it feel like I was in a Bruce Willis movie. With the fantastic weather, I knew the trails would be busy. I broke my "PR" for number of riders passed while riding MTB, and I didn't even ride back over Grand Ridge. I took the road home from Duthie to avoid the busy trails. I'm used to riding on weekdays when the trails are deserted, and I can ride fast enough for another type of PR.

Hiking 54:00 [2] 2.5 mi (2.8 mph) +688ft
weight:148.5lbs (rest day) shoes: Altra Olympus 2.0 11.5

Squak Mountain hike with Tracy: Rationalization closed with will power. After time spent contemplating all of the ramifications of riding MTB today vs. taking a DOB, I concluded that rest was the best course. Nevertheless, it took a lot of will power to make the decision stick.Being able to hike with Tracy is what closed it for me.

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle-HP: I didn't have the votes for repeal, an executive order would P.O. Tracy, so I went with a temporary stay. A big component of my 2018 goal of not taking a single fall is my self-imposed 75% rule. As in, don't exceed a very subjective "75%" when riding DH. Today, I broke the rule for 5:59 on the Water Tower Trail. I love the trail, the dirt was great, the trail was deserted, and the sight lines are great, especially since the leaves are not out yet.

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle-HP: Pre-ride Go-Juice is a remedy, but not a cure for the disease, and a Booster Shot of tonic lets me double down. It's amazing how different I felt than yesterday when I was quite tired. I used 60mg of caffeine before the ride, and 30mg several hours later. The cure for the fatigue "disease" is a few days off of the bike, but a little bit of caffeine gave me some temporary relief. The mid-ride booster shot enabled me to feel pretty good finishing off my longest and hardest ride of the year. That beats a rest day in my book!

MTB 2:03:00 [4] 20.0 mi (9.8 mph) +2121ft
ahr:113 max:146 shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

HP-Grand Ridge-HP: I know the cure but the medicine tastes bad. It's a little early in the year to be tired and worn out from TMR, but I've managed to do it. With over 120,000' of climbing YTD, 100% of it on the mountain bike, a little rest is the Rx. Taking time off of the bike feels like going to the penalty box, and I have a very hard time doing it.

MTB 2:14:00 [3] 23.1 mi (10.3 mph) +2507ft
ahr:121 max:147 shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge-Duthie: Search for the mythical water fall. I stopped to answer questions from two visitors headed from the Highlands to Grand Ridge. They were looking for "The Waterfall." China has massive mountains and big waterfalls, and they seemed disappointed when I told them that there was no water fall at GR. I directed them to the creek on the Coal Mine Trail. As I rode through the creek, I second guessed myself, because there are indeed "waterfalls," but they are only 1-2' drops. If you have never left Beijing and only seen a fountain, I suppose that a creek dropping 1-2' might be a "waterfall."
