Olallie annual trip to the summit of Mt. Washington (4400'). It's pretty rare that you can get to the actual top of a mountain via mountain bike, and it was pretty cool, seeing as how its name is Mt. Washington. I've hauled the bike all the way to the top, but today I stashed it in the trees for the final .2m steep unrideable section. S-Works MTB shoes are great for riding, but not so hot for scrambling up a 20%+ boot beaten brushy path over rocks and logs. Bogus heart rate/relative effort readings-time for a new battery. I only saw two other riders, and not a soul for the first 2h15m of the ride, so it felt like a backcountry trip.

Raging River-Home: According to plan, (almost) stopping to smell the roses. Due to lots of recent hard riding, I knew my tank would be half full at best, so my plan was to take it easy. My last trip to RR was all about hammering the climb, which resulted in 17 PR's including a KOM and a 2nd, as well as nine other "achievements." Today my best achievement was enjoying a beautiful day, as well as riding safely. I only saw two other riders.

Cycling 2:43:00 [3] 44.4 mi (16.3 mph) +2238ft
weight:147lbs shoes: SW road 2013

South Lake WA-Mercer Island loop: an abrupt reminder in an otherwise low stress ride. I let my attention wander for a split second as I checked the time and temp display at Honda of Bellevue. That's all it took for a car to pass so closely that it felt like its mirror missed me by 6". I had a bike lane, but I always make it a habit to use my little mirror to monitor overtaking cars. I failed to do that for just a few seconds, and it almost cost me. Traffic was incredibly light everywhere, even in Seattle.

Sunday Aug 18 #

MTB 1:54:00 [4] 17.3 mi (9.1 mph) +4013ft
ahr:126 max:151 weight:147.2lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Olallie Jolly: Two days later and two kinds of fun. Friday's Olallie ride was all about attacking and hammering the climb. Today I kicked back and reveled in the pure fun of mountain biking. A bobcat was all that I spotted on the JWT headed to the O trailhead. On my return trip, I encountered the Tunnel Marathon crowd participating in what seems like a weekly running event on the JWT.
