South Lake WA-Mercer Island: An anniversary I usually forget. Not my wedding anniversary, which Tracy and I both forgot last week until we saw a card in the mail! Riding out amongst the cars for the first time in a month must have triggered the realization that it's now twenty years since I owned a car. It was an easy decision then, since we were moving to Downtown Seattle. Ten years later, we moved to Issaquah, and I found that I still didn't want to own a car, but of course, Tracy needs her car. Given that I was a bonafide sports car and sport bike motorcycle nut, it's odd that I don't miss car stuff at all. Maybe I don't miss car stuff because I have cool bicycle stuff! Tired from TMR this week: 16.5h including four very hard MTB rides, and 18,000' of climbing.

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle: "Working from home is no problem!" My reply to the cyclist who was greeting me was, "If it's a problem, it's a good one to have." Actually, it's no problem for me, since I "retired" on my 45th birthday. I don't think it was a problem for him, as I am betting he's been riding more than working. Judging by the number of kids at Duthie, remote learning must not be a problem either, at least in terms of recreation. The trails were so busy today, that at times it felt like a summer weekend during the Before Time.

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle: Lucky Horseshoe Day. Two women on beautiful horses were stopped on the trail at SE. As I walked the bike past them, one of them asked me if I would help her by picking up a horseshoe that had fallen off a hoof. Despite stopping, I was lucky (horseshoe) enough to pick up a KOM on that stretch of trail. It was the only time I stopped during the entire ride.

Hiking 55:00 [2] 2.9 mi (3.2 mph) +726ft
weight:146.6lbs (rest day) shoes: Hoka Bondi 6

Squak Mountain backyard hike: Vitamin D-Day. I wore shorts, but it would be a massive stretch to call this a sun tan day. I forced myself to take a DOB, but it was too nice to not spend some time outdoors.

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie-Soaring Eagle: Stravasshole without the "Strava" Normally I would just call out, "Downhill riders should yield to uphill," but that's not what I said to an absolute idiot rider. He heard me, he saw me, but not only did he not back off from a truly barely in control pace, he didn't even bother to change his line to avoid a collision. He counted on me to do that, which I did, but man, what an asshole. I just hope he didn't run over the three novice riders that were just behind me. I do my share of hard and fast riding, but I never assume that I can treat the trails as my own personal racetrack, like this guy did.

ahr:121 max:151 weight:146.4lbs shoes: SW MTB 2014 Bling

Grand Ridge RT-Duthie: Noise cancellation=sensory deprivation. Not a great idea for a hiker to wear huge headphones on a trail where 75%+ of the trail users are mountain bike riders. The next time I saw him he wasn't wearing them, so I guess he got tired of being startled. Or maybe he got to thinking that not all the critters he might encounter would be as courteous and friendly as me. Lots of people out today, especially for a Monday.
