Squak Mountain road walk with Tracy: Confirmation. How I felt walking up the hill confirmed that taking a rest day instead of riding was the right decision. It's hard to pass up a beautiful riding day. Tomorrow won't be as nice of a day, but I will feel better on the ride.

Bike to climb everywhere on Bike Everywhere Day. We called it Bike to Work Day back when I was on the Cascade Bicycle Club board, because we wanted to please the corporate donors that we were soliciting. Bike Everywhere Day sounds a little awkward, but it is so much better, as it is all encompassing. It's all about riding to the store, to the dentist, on trails, to work, or just for fun. I feel so fortunate to live where we have spectacular riding, as well as good cycling infrastructure and respectful drivers. cE8.5 RE 1st climb 8.3-8.8 2nd climb 8.2-8.7 China loop 8-8.3 x fade at all-plenty of energy for 5k, but I am getting a little mentally tired of hard Cougar climbing 2-3 days/week

Walking 31:00 [3] 2.0 mi (3.9 mph) +40ft

Insomnia Zone. Normally I tire myself out enough that I sleep like a baby, but this time of the year presents a challenge. I still fall asleep fine and sleep well, but with the sun rising at 4:45 AM, I can't seem to make it to the alarm in the morning. Oh well, that is a small price to pay for the glorious long summer days of the PNW at latitude 47 degrees north! Walk to see GiGi at Michlak's. Tracy picked me up near the hatchery on her way home from work.

MTB 2:36:00 [4] 25.1 mi (9.7 mph) +3150ft

Grand Ridge-Duthie: Instincts not auto-pilot. During my time away from riding the mountain bike,I reflected upon just how much time I spent riding on auto-pilot, including a shocking amount of very fast riding. Relying on instincts is good. Just letting it flow along is bad. The skills are rusty, but the basic technique is still there. Certainly it's better than it was on my last ride, after three months of not riding MTB. cE8+ if anything, felt better than on yesterday's hard climbing ride. Felt pretty strong and fit on all of the climbs. No fade at all. Lightest since June 16th

Montreux-Cougar Towers 2x-Somerset-China: "I'll have a beer to go!" I don't drink, but that's what popped into my head when the refreshment cart girl abruptly stopped and waved me on. A few of the Newcastle Golf Club holes weave through the surrounding neighborhood, and she was about to cross the road ahead of me. Come to think of it, an ice cold Coke would have come in handy right about then:) cE8 RE 1st climb 8.2-8.8 light headwind 2nd climb 8-4-8.8 light tailwind rest at SS

Woodinville-Snoq. Valley-Samm Plateau: What's the big deal? Lots of riders I know enjoy riding in Snoqualmie Valley, but it's never really lit my fire. I have not ridden Flying Wheels in almost 20 years. The scenery is nice, but the riding is boring at times. Traffic is mostly light, but with short sections of shoulderless road with cars passing at high speed. The highlight for me was the climb out of the valley on Ames Hill. I enjoyed the Samm Plateau riding a lot more. cE/RE 6.5-7
